Interests that cover many of the forums except carving because I have enough difficulty working in two dimensions.
If I had a big supply of nice self collected material, tumbling.
Silversmithing, wire wrapping and intarsia. I might give simple intarsia a try. I appreciate jewelry making but I don't believe I have the patience and hands to do a decent job.

If you don't start, you won't finish!
Can you start this afternoon? tomorrow? How about Monday?
Best wishes : )

Several decades ago I was taught to solder by a gentleman who was missing parts of fingers from both hands ( I never asked why), had bifocals, and who shook like a leaf. I figured if he could manage to do a decent job there weren't any excuses for not trying.
Tumbling can be a small operation with Lortone's small barrels. We tumble our cabbing scraps.
Most importantly, have fun!

Almost 60 years ago as a freshman in HS, I took a crafts class that was broken into four quarters. One of the classes was jewelry making which included casting and silversmithing. I learned how to solder.
Some years ago my wife got some silversmithing training. She didn't pursue it but bought silver and some tools and supplies. I do lapidary for relaxation and don't expect to find jewelry making relaxing for me.

There are many aspects of jewelry making. Some are a pain in the neck and can be avoided. Other aspects are enjoyable and that could be your focus. At some point, I narrowed my interest to what I really, really liked, and that is what I do now.

Why would you want to try something, but probably wont? Time? Lack of money? Fear of failure? Or just lack of motivation and desire?
I am always up to try something. We only have one life, you might as well make it a fun one.
I love tumbling & you can always build up your supply easily for it.
My next goal is silversmith work. I love soldering so it should be fun I am still practicing my wire wrapping, but it doesn't seem to like me. I tried carving-sort of, need to give that another try my copper is extremely fun and I am finally producing pieces I am really proud of
and I have other ideas in my head I want to try as well.

Time. Even though I'm retired I am responsible for meal preparation, necessary gardening and cleaning and shopping.

Time. Even though I'm retired I am responsible for meal preparation, necessary gardening and cleaning and shopping. I always tell my students to say you dont have time is the same as telling me you dont really want to. We make time for that which we feel is important to us, whether its friends, family, partners, homework, things that make us happy, work, everything is a matter of time and priorities. I'm a big believer now in spending time on things and people that make me happy, the stuff that feeds my soul. The rest of the stuff isnt going anywhere.

Time. Even though I'm retired I am responsible for meal preparation, necessary gardening and cleaning and shopping. I cherish my shop time that happens in between those required domestic activities. Sure, grinding some rock (making cabs) can relieve some stress. But for me its the constructive things that help restore a better attitude.

One think I have learned over the years, thanks to my daughter. There are reasons and there are excuses for a person not to pursue an interest. She showed me that some of my reasons were excuses. That I could adapt traditional methods to something that worked for me. I have arthritis in my hands, neck and back, Hands are sometimes numb. Just do jewelry and lapidary in short time frames or when things are good. I have vision problems, even with glasses. Use a lit magnifier and sometimes another magnifier on top of it. I am responsible for all cooking, harvesting/preserving, cleaning, yard work, farm work and also have a part time job. A couple of volunteering things, too.
If a person is truly interested in something, they will find a way to start slow. If it still appeals to them, they will find the time.
Best of luck in determining what you want to give a chance.

You are already half way there. You have some supplies a little more and a place for the set up. And the time will make it self. Start basic keep it easy and fun it will grow to what you want it to be. With the basic skills the only thing holding you back is you. Any creation in one's hands is it's own master piece in it self. Now come on have some fun.
