So, I messed up. Had a typo in address. PayPal changed the address and I did not catch it. Package arrived at recipients PO. It was returned to me on May 11. That was the last scan. I submitted a search request.
Now my local PO, who was assisting in the past, says that I need to go through the USPS. I have sent them emails and responded to their generic monthly updates, but have heard nothing back. Local PO said that there should have been scanning on the return trip to me. They concluded that the package was still at the destination PO. Recipient checked several times with their PO and was told it was not there.
My main questions are:
Am thinking this box of rocks is gone forever. It contained many nice pieces from Billy and others, plus my best finds that were to be sawed and most made into preforms. How long has anyone waited before giving up?
How long does it take for the USPS to give up on a search and pay the insurance claim?
I messed up and did not get additional insurance above $50.00.
Live and learn. This was the first and hopefully the last, time a package I sent went missing. I ended up losing over $100.00 worth of irreplaceable rocks and slabs. Plus had to pay the $20.00 to stop payment on the check I included to help with cost of cutting the rocks. I am now triple checking all addresses. Still have needed to correct PayPal autocorrections on some. Has anyone else ran into this?
Wanting to get some advice and also put the word out to others to be extra careful when shipping anything.
Thank you

I sent a package to Japan that got lost. USPS was absolutely ZERO help. The package finally made it BACK TO ME about 3 months later. I lost the paypal case, which is bullshit. I had to pay for the shipping that screwed up, too. I think she gave me the wrong address.

That $50.00 insurance on Priority boxes is a joke... Rarely does anyone get any insurance money from USPS... Sorry for your loss... Had a box lost in Australia once, got stuck in Customs for seven months (Just sitting on a shelf)..

Shipped 2 LFRB from Quartzsite last year with Kay County Chert to my friend here for holding til I got home. They were lost for 2 months. Tracking had no idea. They eventually showed up. In pretty good shape too! LOL
