It seems like BLM is doing alot of work lately in regards to what land will be allowed for access for rockhounds. The evaluation in Utah seems to be a good thing. At the same time, BLM was taking comments for what should be open in portions of the Mojave Desert for rock collecting. I emailed the CFMS secretary to see if there was any new news about the Mojave Desert plan. Nothing has apparently come forth after the comment period for this item. I think this is good news, at least they're "thinking" about allowing rock collecting. There is a lot going on with the designation change, including revisiting roads that had been closed. Thanks for the heads up on this.

There's lots of nice rock locked up in that area. would be nice to collect there again.
