Many here have seen the points jamesp has been posting that were made from his glass. I sent some rocks to one of the knappers, Willie. The material is what is locally called Wisconsin Jasper. Plentiful in my fields. Some contain hidden fossils and crystals. I think Willie captured the character of the rock very well. Here is the rock it came from.

Forgot to put a size reference next to rock, but it is about 5" long by 3" thick.

Great job. He found a beautiful point out of what was a rough gnarly looking rock.

Might be gnarly looking, but I have split this material easily using a hammer and chisel. The seams are the key. A few taps and they split.

Looks like a well healed brecciate jasper ? It is beautiful. And you found a great man for the job. Ever find Native points made from this Wisconsin jasper ? Might be treasured by the flaking bunch if it was flaked by the Abo folks.

No points found on my land here, yet. All I have are Sugar Quartz, AKA Hixton Quartzite and agate ones found by my G-Grandfather where I previously lived.

Did he slab the rock before knapping? Pretty rock, would make nice cabs.

He does not have a saw, so it was just knapping.

A notorious flaking material from Mississippi. Atlanta/North Georgia/Appalachian mountains is loaded with quartzite, many points made of it of wide range of colors. Just saying, fine quartzite is a hot flaking material.

Very beautiful point. I assume he heat treated the material before knapping?
