This is an excellent abstract with photos. One of the areas discussed in detail was where I gathered pet wood.

Sometime this week hope to post some photos of pet wood I have from various USA locations to this thread. Will try to include related info on coloration from what I learned in this abstract. Do not have specific locations for some, just the state.
I am constantly amazed at how much elements in the ground/water/air can cause such special colors in fossilized materials.

I really only collect at a few locations here in Oregon. I have a fair bit from the Stinking Water Mountains here in Oregon and I am amazed by the wide variety of colors just from that area. Also Hampton butte has a wide range of colors also, move 10 miles and you get complete different colors! It is truly amazing.

These three pieces all all from Stinking Water, probably less than 3/4 of a mile from each other. amazing color difference. I got to wondering so I went to google earth and did some measuring, more like 1.2 miles from one to the other. more or less a straight line between them.
