I have been thinking about John a lot since I heard about his death. I don't even know what he looked like, but I really enjoyed his posts. I'll miss him.

How sad. This board shall be a different place without his eccentric sense of humor and vivid imagination -- not mention his posts of some of the most amazing eye candy. RIP. Hope you are enjoying that Great Agate in the Sky. For you, may it taste as nice as it looks.

Great guy. During our little banter not so long ago regarding the origins of his eye candy he sent me a PM to make sure I was enjoying the debate as as much as he was. made me really want to meet him in person. He will definitely be missed.

I agree with the sentiments being expressed. My moment with him that I particularly enjoyed was when John humbly asked me for permission to continue posting so many photos in his eye candy Zoo thread. I managed to contain it to a smile but inside I was thinking DUDE!! - with that kind of beautiful content post and post and post till your heart is content! haha. Yeah, weird how life takes these turns when we least expect it. Thanks aDave for the update. Without your initial and followup investigations it's highly likely that we'd still be sitting here wondering what happened.

I do want to express my condolences to the family & friends of, John never got the chance to know him well. I was hoping to-- being that he resided about the city of Phoenix. What a little I could gather is that he that resided in many geographical areas, had many a rich varied experiences, and had a rock pareidolia par excellent I will miss his wit especially in the rock box. Ed Plus this was the last post that I recall I thought then and still do how witty Cheers

We are sad to say that all of the evidence points to the passing of our johnw - known as John Deakin Waring in real life. We don't know any of the circumstances of John's passing, but we do know that John suddenly made his last post here on 2/09/2019 and we have found an obituary from 2/10/2019 that is an exact match to John's first and last name and his birthday from his RTH profile. We also know that the funeral home is located in very close proximity to where his posts were originating based on his IP location. Just to add a level of certainty we have reached out to the family through the funeral home and if anything more develops we will share it - if it is appropriate to do so. John had an exuberant personality and it was obvious that he loved rocks in a way that not all of us could match, or even understand and appreciate. John loved to see the beautiful pictures inside the rocks and had a particularly infectious enthusiasm for collecting carved display animals as he shared in his wonderful Welcome to my Zoo thread. Rest in peace John - I will say a prayer for the living in your life that they find comfort and healing.

I am so happy to see that my father John Deakin Waring continued to share his passion for stones and create stories . I am his daughter Susan Waring and I learned he passed away from his second wife on Sunday February 10th. My father suffered from sleep apnea so it ended up taking his life . As a child growing up he spent his weekends in the garage tumbling stones and creating art . He took me to a stone store in Culver City very often to buy new stones . I stumbled on this forum after looking at the memorial posts from the obituary. I was touched to see his Zoo he had collected because I’ve never seen it as he left my life when I was 22 and we rarely spoke after he moved to Asia and he had a new life with his second wife . I spent 2 hours reading all his post on his Zoo and seeing everyone’s reactions to his incredible way of creating stories. I will miss my father always but I’m truly touched to see what he was up to in the last days of his life .

Thank you for sharing these. One thing I forgot to mention in my last post on this thread. I think John felt like he was home here on RTH, like he was one of the family. I'll miss his wonderful narrations, his sense of humor... He made me smile.

Susan susanwaring thank you for sharing your family pictures with us. Your father was indeed a gentleman, with a wit and imagination that delighted all of us here on the forum. His infectious passion for rocks and his sense of humor are sorely missed.
His threads about the Zoo and the Bakery always made me smile and he will be fondly remembered by the members of this forum.
My condolences to you and your family on your loss.

Hi Susan
Offer a tidbit that your Dad mentioned on the board. This was about the first week of January. He posted that he visited Luke Air Force Base and watched the F-16 takeoff and land.
He was genuinely excited by that (rightfully so) and encouraged everyone on the board to experience that- if they could.
That post was made in the Shout box. Those messages scroll off- so they no longer exist.
- condolences from the Valley of the Sun
