As a seller I count on feedback and it is kind of a slap in the face not to get one at all. It is so very important to have those pluses and not just because others see them. Your fee rates, listing quantities and more are affected by feedback. Are you talking about etsy? I have never heard that they charge differently according your shop's reputation and good standing. No this is EBAY.

& it doesn't take long to say Thank you, or good seller, item as described, had problem but seller fixed satisfactorily, etc. Every little thing positive helps where as a negative or neutral really does hurt the seller and we as sellers cannot do a darn thing about it if the buyer is lying. Which is why a lot of sellers will bend over backwards to fix things. I had a gentleman leave a really nasty feedback on a very expensive LP just because he didn't get his way with me re-valuing the LP to lower his custom costs. My policy states clearly I will NOT do this and he harassed me for a month straight via messages to refund him which I refused. Even though I had proof via his messages this is why he left the negative feedback EBAY would still not reverse it. It will drop off soon but it wasn't good for another potential buyer to see for a whole year, even though as a seller I can and did leave my comment under his. Thanks for the enlightenment (see green above). Not being a seller I did not know this. Do you know if this is the case anywhere else besides Ebay? Al I think its Ebay. I've sold on discogs and currently Etsy and it's not the same set up There is a lot of protection for buyers on Ebay, but not so much for the sellers.

The other thing and I'm sure those that sell may agree is that a lot of work goes into a listing. It can take hours to get stuff ready to sell.
So it is very much appreciated when that positive is given

I usually don't leave feedback, unless I am very happy with the purchase. I would have to be really angry before posting neutral or negative feedback, especially on a small seller. I don't like hurting someone else's business. I have slagged a couple of people who were selling fake merchandise. They knew it and tried to pass it off as legit. In fact, on one Canadian seller, I told them I was going to the RCMP with the item. That got their attention pronto. ;-) As a seller I count on feedback and it is kind of a slap in the face not to get one at all. I had a grumpy German harass me for the same thing. After letting him go on about how I should have sent it as a gift so he could avoid VAT tax and I better refund him or get bad feedback I simply told him if I didn't have a glowing review immediately I would forward the emails to ebay and the Revenue folks in his country. As soon as I had it I blocked his @$$. I also switched my auctions to block all overseas bidders.

I blocked him but most of the buyers for high dollar LPs are international.

Oh wow, I have just learned A LOT by reading this thread. I only ever bought some 3 or 4 things from Ebay so far. I'll make sure to be more careful about reviews from now on!

Leaving a neg review over $2? $200 I could see, but $2? come on.....
Anyway, I had someone buy an item off me. She left a negative review. I told her that it wasnt my fault (because it wasnt), but I would refund her $7 in full and she could keep the item if she would reverse the neg review. She flat out told me "this is for principle" (even though it wasnt my fault at all and was 4 months after the purchase). Some people just out there to be nasty

I just got a 4 star review. No, it's not that bad, but it really bugged me... I often give 4 stars in individual categories on eBay. If it took a week to send it out, without sending an explanation...4 stars. Charged me $3.50 shipping to put an antique postcard in an envelope with no tracking...4 stars. Didn't take the time to send me a personal email thanking me for the purchase...4 stars.

I live next to a PO that has direct trucks to the international airport. My customer service is great! She just thought the stone should be an AAA stone when it was described as a B stone. On eBay, the fastest way for me to dock stars is for shipping. They have to ship the day after paying- if I get it late, I'm pissed.

I don't send a personal email after each sale, but I do personally write a Thank you on the packing invoice. I certainly hope I wouldn't get 4 stars just for that.

I got a 4 star review because the buyer didn't like something that was specifically stated in the description. I emailed, thanked her for the feedback, and gently pointed out that what she didn't like was in the description. No reply, no modification of the review. I was sad.
So when you say "ship the day after paying" do you also count the weekends? I list that I ship 1-2 Business Days after payment, because very often the post offices' package bins fill up by Saturday afternoon and there's no way I could possibly get it in the mail. BUT, I do at least print up the shipping label by the next day at latest, so the customer gets the notice right away.

I do the label the night before because DH takes it at 4:30 in the morning.

No offense, but... In this grumpy old guy's opinion that doesn't merit a 5 star rating for "communication". A handwritten "Thank you for your purchase" is appreciated, but in my (no so) humble opinion it doesn't constitute communication. Even a copy and paste form letter sent to my email indicates that the seller truly appreciates my purchase. Hell, I've gotten such emails for items I paid as little as $10 for. If those sellers can take the time, I expect sellers of $100 items to do the same. Luckily for you (and me), I don't buy stones, etc. on eBay.

Personally, a note in the package would mean more to me than a cut/paste form thank you e-message. However, I find that the ebay and etsy folks who message me right after I pay with thanks often become regular vendors, probably because it infers that I can expect them to be reliable. If a seller has put some time into customer retention I'm even willing to pay a couple bucks more for the assurance that I get it when I need it. I'm in this for the long haul so surrounding myself with others who feel the same about their niche seems sensible to me.

Y'all are going to find this weird. I bought a slab on eBay. It arrived broken. It was a very specific pattern of which the best part broke. I wasn't mad because it was packaged very well. Honestly, that material is prone to breaking. I emailed the seller, just to let him know- not to complain- but so he would know that it was prone to break in shipping. He was all over himself trying to make me happy and offered me my money back including shipping and a sister slab. I told him I would buy the sister slab at the original price if he would pick up usps 1st class shipping. He freaked out and was so happy that I wasn't an asshole. I told him - the fault wasn't his. Made both our days. Another seller who I really like appreciates it when I send her pictures of cabs from her very unusual material. Never hurts to be nice. Sellers are people, too.

You get more flies with honey than vinegar
and we all are just people who have "life: going on. Sometimes we take what is going in our own lives out on others and sometimes we apply our own expectations on others and that isn't fair.
We do that a lot in life then wonder why we are so disappointed.
and Not so grumpy Bill's handwritten thank you is a very nice touch and something I have been doing a long with a thank you right after they purchase with shipping expected date.
Why? because it isnt expected these days and doesnt take that long to do.
Has it made a difference in my feedback? Not so far but id rather be honey so its something I will continue to do

I just got this a few minutes ago from the guy I bought a Nova wheel from:
Hello,
Thank you for your order! Our mission is to create satisfaction with each item purchased. Your order has been shipped, and the tracking information is now available. Please check the tracking number to receive confirmation on the packages current location. Product reviews are greatly appreciated, please take the time and review the items you have purchased from us.
If there is an issue with your order, PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW, contact Blue Water Emporium immediately to fix the existing problem. We will work together on resolving any possible issues you may have. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact us. Thank you again for your business and support. Have a great day!
Best Regards,
Dave
I emailed him back and said that even though I know it's a form letter that I appreciated it.... and I did. I probably get something like that 1/4 of the time and I always appreciate it. It makes me feel more secure in my purchase, too.
I try to keep up with personal messages after a sale, but I don't always. Sometimes, I'm just torn because they get a message sent to them after the sale which I scripted. So, I wonder if it is overkill. I do have a lot of clients that I converse with a lot, but some people really don't want to be bothered and you have to feel them out.
