I have two 12-lb Lortone barrels running right now. Thought I'd see how big a rock I could tumble. The first started as a 5# 1oz piranha agate. The first two pics are before any tumbling: These next two pics are after 3 weeks in 80 grit with full recharges every week: The next rock started as a 7# 14oz 'Flame Agate' from Pakistan. I was very disappointed when I received it from the ebay vendor - didn't look as solid and looked like all jasper - no sign of agate. Barely fits in the barrel: The next pics are also after 3 weeks of grinding. Some white agate did show up: Both rocks are losing between one to two ounces per week. I had to switch to mostly pea gravel and small filler with the flame agate, otherwise it would wedge against a larger rock and stop tumbling altogether. The barrel would roll very oddly, but never did jump the rollers. The slurry mud does turn a distinct reddish-gray which again makes me think very little agate in the stone. But we'll see how it goes. I have a lot of corundum filler in with the piranha agate, hoping that will help smooth it out faster. I will provide updates in several more weeks.

Looking forward to seeing how that Piranha finishes out. It's looking pretty good so far!

Yep the red looks like Jasper, but your tumbling is very promising.

Just re-charged again yesterday. Nothing too exciting though. Maybe by the end of the month. Rolling, rolling, rolling...

You folks who tumble have the patience of saints. I know i couldn't wait like that for them to be done.

Is the remainder of the filler just small stuff and how full are you filling the barrels?

With the red jasper I’m using all smalls. With the piranha agate smalls and some medium. Both about 2/3 full.

Shutting down for the season before it starts getting cold. A few smaller pieces have been passed onto stage two but most of both rocks are still making their way through the rough stage. Guess we'll have to finish next year... Thanks for looking. Pics are wet of course.

They are all still in rough for one defect or another. The few that passed on to the next stage are not pictured.
