Is anyone going? It's a bit of a drive for me so I'm hoping there are a lot of good deals to be had.

You have any more information on this event? I googled it and what I found on Facebook didn't say much. It would depend on how large it is as to whether the drive from Tampa Bay is worth it for me.
You have a link to any other sites or posts about this? Where you driving from?

That's what I found Jean. Thank you. No mention of how large an event it is that I can find. Maybe my local rock club (which I don't belong to) has more info. I'll try contacting them. Would be a good 3+ hours each way and don't need to go if it is not an impressive event. We don't get many rock shows in Florida, so anything with more rocks than my garage catches my attention.

I just noticed that under my stars it says "no longer being taken for granite"
okay... when did these change? Is there a new list? Nice to see new status names!

I'd go, but I won't be getting to FL until next month.

Back in'07, or thereabouts, I flew into Fort Meyers, rented a car and headed up 75. Thought I saw a heavy rainstorm up ahead. Sky was almost completely dark. First time I'd ever seen that many lovebugs...

Just a guess, but probably not worth the drive. It is a two day event, but it is their First Annual, so no track record. Judging by the lack of advertising, I would pass on it. The venue is a music park, frequented mostly by tribute bands.

It all adds up, Jean rockpickerforever, but still an opportunity to pick up a few rocks and catch a Nearvana show.

Ha ha, Randy. Ya gotta love those near band names, lol. I doubt it will be a very big show, they will pale in comparison to captbob 's rocks. Doubt he would be impressed.

I thought about it but it's a 2759 mile drive for me. I don't think I can get there in time.

Bob, don't mean to detract from the thread too much here, but since you asked... Rankings and stars were changed within the last month or so. It was realized that the original ranking system (which probably never accounted for mega-posters that we have now) was limited and never anticipated folks getting into tens of thousands posts. As such, the rankings were renamed, reorganized, and whatever. jamesp and his prolific amount of posts was the instigating factor in looking to make a change. Glad you like what was done. Thanks for asking. ETA: Was going to share this link to explain the change, but I see you've already been there. Dave

From the flyer I got at my local gem club, the event is the 1st annual SFMS Rockhound Roundup. SFMS = Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies. May 17, 18, 19. Admission is required into the park, but the rockswap is free to buyers.
Spirit of Suwannee Music Park 3076 95th Drive Live Oak FL 32060
I'll be there, it may be a wasted drive rock-wise but I've family in the area. I'll let you all know how it was, just in case there is a 2nd annual.

Love it, so jamesp is now the Master of the Rock Domain. What a deserving title for him. tanstaafl Thanks for posting the update. Even though I am thousands of miles from there, it is nice to see others promoting new events. Who knows? Maybe some will show up with lots of rocks/slabs at bargain prices. Could also be a great way to make connections with others. Please post an update after the show.

Wife probably not to keen on the 'Master' title. Hard to know what to expect at a Florida rock show. Miami and Savannah are big port towns, lots of imported stuff coming in these ports if into such.

The Live Oak rock swap this past weekend was pretty good. About 35 vendors and a little something for everyone. There were mineral examples, used machines, beading stuff, finished jewelry, etc. I was looking for slabs to cab and found some nice examples at reasonable prices. The venue was a grassy field without a ton of shade so as the day wore on, I suspect it was really hot. If this becomes an annual swap, it'd be nice if it were a few weeks earlier in the year for some cooler temps.
