So here's what I brought home from Friday. Never hunted Tee Pees before it was a whole new way of looking for rocks for me. They're encased in chert nodules surrounded by limestone and sometimes you could find them laying around, but we spent most of the day breaking up rocks with a sledgehammer. They always didn't break where I wanted them to and most of the time they weren't in the rocks we broke up, but they're way more common than Fairburns. Here's a few pictures I took, I still need to go through them all- and figure out how I'm going to get them out of the limestone so I can do something with them... Thanks for looking!

You have some great ones. Love the druzy in some. The black one is awesome. Dunno if the dremel can handle those. See at least a trim saw in your future.
There is a beautiful cab in the last one.

Thanks, I like them also. They have some beautiful colors and patterns. I'll definitely go back. Yep, I'll probably start with my saw and go from there. I did pick up a few that weren't great just so I can practice a bit. If I could make a few cabs from what I collected I'll be happy.

Good looking color splotches. Is that indicative of Tee Pee rocks?
Thanks!

Good looking color splotches. Is that indicative of Tee Pee rocks? Thanks! Yes, those are typical and what we were looking for. To me they look like fairburns and I would have a hard time distinguishing between the two. I'll leave that up to people who are smarter than me. 😀

Fire up that saw and start trimming off the part that doesn't excite you. Then face the surface or slab across the agate. Dynamite.

You know the Teepee area is off limits for collecting?

Ok not sure about locations but that whole public land area is off limits. Be careful the fines are not fun. Beware of the Crow Rez too. They impound all you stuff including vehicle.

Ok thank you for the info! A friend took me there, hopefully he knows what he was doing- I don't really need a fine. Yep, we stay off reservations in general. They have different laws.
