My wife was interested in the metaphysical qualities of rocks and bought a large thunderegg from the black agate thunderegg mine in California from a rock shop. She took it to a local lapidary to halve it and this is how I got started in cabbing. I tried using it to make cabs but there was too much matrix in with the agate. I kept a small druse piece that had a lot of matrix on the back. I tried my 60 grit on it and it made short work of the matrix. I'm going to trim it up so the back is flat, trim the edges and create a free form leaving the druse untouched.

That sounds like it would be a really great surprise gift.
