I'm running out of material to cut and like a shark I need to keep moving. I've got some big pieces of Guadalupe and will make a few preforms. I went through my unsorted material and found some stuff to work on. One slab looked like MH except it is much lighter except when wet and is only 1/8 inch. All my other MH slabs were darker. I no idea what else it could be and will try to make some cabs. I found a thick slab which I guess is chrysocolla which is something I don't work with. I found one mystery slab that looks interesting.

I believe the first one to be Riviera Plume agate.

Thanks for the ID. The slab is only 1/8 inch thick. Before I started doing lapidary my wife bought lapidary material like Imelda Marcos bought shoes so I have a lot of stuff I didn't know I had.

I cut three kinds of Guadalupe. I had a big piece of the material used to make the first preform. The back was slathered in mortar when I bought it and I never knew why. The slab was thick so my plan was to cut a preform and then trim the mortar off the back. What I found was fractures that run parallel to the face. I abandoned that preform and looked for any part of the slab without fractures and some kind of a scene and ended up with a freeform. I cut another shield from another flavor of Guadalupe. It fractured and that was the end of the slab. I moved on to the last bit of nice Guadalupe and cut a shield. The space was the right size for a circle, square or shield. Ocean, Riviera Plume, chrysocolla and an unknown with poppies. I was going to cut a freefrom and the shield. The freeform fractured on the saw and I doubt the shield is completed.

I trimmed the Guadalupe and will grind off the mortar (about 1/2 mm) to see the scene and pick a scene to design. The slabettes seem to fairly solid.
