i've already told y'all i hate spiders, snakes and wasps. today i was going to pull up some sunflower stalks that aren't blooming because they are too shaded. my child had the dog on the leash and was beside me. i stirred up a wasps nest and got stung in the calf and ran screaming "run, run, wasps, wasps" and left my child and the dog behind. when i thought i'd reached a safe distance and turned to see how they were fairing, my child was holding her elbow crying and the dog had tangled in the sunflower stalks and was dragging them with him so i took off running again from them thinking he was dragging the wasps with him. my husband ran over and unsnapped the dog from the leash and then i let them catch up and we all ran for the house. after it was all over and our stings weren't hurting so bad my child said "your the best mom ever". hmmmmmmmm must be cause i got stung too because it sure wasn't because i stayed to save anybody. i guess i can stop limping around now cause the foot that was broken kept up just fine ;D.

That is one of the most creative ways I have ever heard of pruning sunflowers! I bet you laid awake at night waiting for the chance to try it out for real. I am extremely allergic to wasp stings. One sting, throat closes and either adreniline or I am gone. I am grateful you and your daughter only got stung and it was just inconvience and a little pain and swelling. Way cool how the dog saw issue and decided to help with the pruning, hope he did not pull any good sunflowers. Most of all, cool you two are ok and had a little time to share an esperience.

You ARE the best Mom, you ran in the hope that the wasps would follow you so you doughter and dog would be safe!! You deserve a medal. As for the sunflowers, more fert would make them grow to the sun and still bloom ....perhaps Take care Jack

That reminds me of a bit of family lore...the house caught on fire...My grandmother with three kids in the house grabbed a loaf of bread and ran for it. Luckily the kids were big enough to run after her. And, they had something to eat while the fire was being put out. She never had a good explanation for the bread over the kids thing.
