I recently went to the Petrified Forest on vacation, and I bought one of those cut but not polished geodes. I was thinking I could just put a coat of art resin on it to shine it up but dad said that's cheating. Do you have any cheap recommendations for someone who isn't good with power tools? it's a really pretty blue crystal but it's solid through, no cavern.
Any suggestions for how to shine up the petrified wood without losing the shape or grain? I got some of those in the gift shop too.

If it doesn't have a flat, cut face, then tumbling would be the way to go (though you may lose some detail of the exterior texture). If it has a cut face, here is a video from one of the regular posters here... Some of the prettiest petrified wood specimens are cut across the grain to show the end pattern with the annular rings and polished only on that cut face. You can cut the flat face using a wet tile saw, or have someone with a tile saw cut for you, as in the video.
