KD, not to throw a kink in the plans, but BE, bschultz and I live pretty close, so it would be silly to send the book from here across country, then back here. So, why don't you put me, BE (when she signs on) and bschultz together. Just bump me down to bschultz, then he can get it to me and BE. Might be a good excuse for him to meet us at the rock shop for a visit and to get the book.
In fact, if we have several people in the same area, it might be easier to send it to one person in that area, they can pass it around to the folks that are closer to them, then send it off to another area. But, however everybody wants to do it is fine with me.
This is going to be a well travelled book. I think the idea of a note and signing the book is a great idea!

ok, how is this for revised list, llanago, since your group might gawk a bit longer on it for several lookenspeepers and pass-it-arounds in the general area, leave it at the rock shop for a few days for gawkers:
KD Stoner cookie BearCreek LLanago /bschultz/BE
makes sense to save on postage of you are all in the same general area. hey no kinks in this, we are flexible, we are fluid, we are like slurry. we just have to keep track and keep it going, i'll get it back someday and it will be a valued momento if everyone leaves a mark on it. maybe name, date, place. i'll leave it up to y'all.
can't wait to get it now! KD
Ps. Brett, go read stoners thread..

If you all are interested in saving on postage, wouldn't it make more sense for the book to start in NY (KD's home state) then go to the next closest person to her that is on the list and so on? I mean otherwise you might have a situation where the book leaves NY goes to TX then on to CAL and then back to PENN and so on. And if the book is going to NZ and Britain, wouldn't it be cheaper for a person on the west coast to send it to NZ than someone on the east coast? Just a thought.

not sure that is true, Otter, first class mail is first class mail no matter where it goes in the continental US? i know UPS and FED Ex have"zones" but is that true for the USPS?
i will do the honors for overseas mailing costs to NZ and the UK, Andy and Deepsouth will have to wait til it makes it's US tour.
i will check USPS rates later today.

That's a great idea Llana. I sort of had the same thought that this book should migrate around in some organized fashion rather than crisscrossing the nation and world like a pinball machine. Afterall the more time it spends in the hands of USPS or UPS or whoever the more chance that something could happen to it. I would say that anyone performing the duty of mailing KD's book should put some sort of delivery confirmation or insurance or something on it. I would hate for it to get lost. Just my 2 cents.

i had a little chat with my little post office lady today and she said in general, under two pounds (bet this book ain't that heavy) you can send priority mail anywhere to anywhere in the continental US for $3.85, insurance is extra, maybe 50 cents. i was thinking about insurance, too. there ARE zones, Otter, you were right for other types of mail other than first class. i didn't know that. up to you guys how you want to ship it then. then i checked the www.usps.com site as my little postmistress suggested (i live in a very small town) and that had all sorts of variables of size, weight, dimension factors to take into consideration. and there is a "bound matter" variation to take into consideration... so, while there probably is a cheaper more efficient way to do this, the difference is a few bucks here and there. i agree that tripping the light fantastic in mail miles is not a prudent thing to do, but it celebrates that even in a large country we can ping pong to our hearts delight. add to this that even if we start out organized and effiecient it will end in chaos anyway, so here is what i propose: i will enclose "cab fare return money" with the book for anyone who feels they cannot or are unable to forward to the next person, they can just send it back to me and i will deal with the next person that wants to see it. as for me, i am willing to start this out as previously outlined, to Stoner, if he sees fit, he can send to whomever he choses next, irrespective of the list as long as the person that sends it follows up with the person that recieves it and so forth and every now and then lets us know where the "roaming gnome" is headed. there is no deadline, but i would think a week to 10 days turn around would be ample time to gawk? didn't mean this to get so complicated.......
