Vince and I went to the Sedona Show on Saturday. We really weren't planning on buying anything -- just wanted to have a nice relaxing day, have an omelet at The Coffee Pot and browse. Of course, we didn't leave empty handed -- we did buy a few slabs and a special cab.
This is a piece of tiger iron Vince wanted because it was slabbed with a pretty good orientation. Slab is about 4.75" x 4.5".
Next is a couple of small slabs of Nundoorite that I wanted because of the polka dots. Slabs are 4.25 x 2.5" and 3.5 x 2.5".
Then I had to have this large, thick slab of OJ. The patterns aren't the best, but I really like the colors. The slab is 7.5 x 5.5" and is 14mm at its thickest and 10mm on the thinner side.
Then the pièce de résistance for me was this beautiful, hand painted owl cab that I absolutely had to have. It will become a pendant for me at some point. It is 24.8 x 21.6 mm:
The Sedona Show is more sedate than the Prescott Show and there wasn't the crowd that we have, but it was a nice show and we enjoyed just being out and looking at rocks and talking to vendors.

The owl❤! I wouldnt of been able to resist that I couldn't. The first words out of my mouth were, "I must have that!" Vince just rolled his eyes at me.

Time to share: My mother was crazy about owls and collected them. I love them, too. But, not like her. My daughter's got some of her owls. I gave them to them and didn't keep any. I figured it was a memory I would never lose and besides... every time I see one I think of her. She would have snapped that one up, too.

The owl was painted by a Venezuelan lady named Rosa. I bought the cab from one of our club members, Keith Horst, and he told me that she is a tattoo artist. Her father is a pilot and around 10 years ago he flew her and the then-president of Venezuela out of the country to Spain before the take over of the government. From there she moved to England for a while and is now here in the US. At least that's the story Keith told me. I have no idea where he actually met her. Next time I see him I'm going to have to ask him.
I have always loved birds from the time I was a little kid. I've turned Vince into a bird watcher, too. Raptors have been my favorites forever, but owls are kind of mystical. They intrigue me.

Really nice slabs.
I heard from the vendors that the show was pretty dead both days. Hope the organizers can figure out how to bring in more traffic.

Wow, that owl is amazing. I’d have to buy it too if I had saw it.
