Am using the term road loosely - we passed signs that said "Primitive Road" and "Road Not Maintained". I think the latter really means "Good Luck...".
Found this piece when we stopped near a riverbed high in the mountains near here. The face shown in the photo isn't even from the most colorful area, judging by what can be seen on the rind. This was just the best place I could find to saw it into two manageable pieces.
Looks like cuttable material with some Hematite MAGNETITE swirling through it. Will know more later, and will post photos of what we find.
EDIT - Knew it was probably Magnetite instead of the usual red jasper / hematite around here when the water in the Genie turned black instead of red. Definitely is magnetic, too. I'd heard there was some of this around here - just never had my hands on any until now.
