How Sweet are they Better keep those feeders full .
Patty
Hummer juice is on the stove as I type, Patty. I've been having to fill them about every 2 days. Robin, recipe please. I've been using some of the powdered commercial type and I mix in some sugar and water. Real story: Years ago my brother's wife came home, opened the fridge then asked him where the hummingbird juice was. It had been a hot day and after doing some construction work he came home, opened up the fridge and drank the whole gallon. Said it was real good and he thought it was.... Always gets a laugh when he tells the story.

Hummingbird Juice
4 parts H20 + 1 part white sugar
Boil & let cool. Store extra in refrig.
NO food coloring necessary.
Some people say you don't have to boil it, but I've found that boiling it, besides the obvious that it purifies it,
I've found it keeps the juice from going rancid longer in the summer heat.
We've found that the simple Perky Pet feeders are actually preferred, by our hummers anyway

A few bamboo roots stitching the ground together This guy was on guard two feet away. Bold rascal letting the camera a foot away. Same pond has been visited by a beaver. Probably a young one looking for his first home. Probably his first and last pine tree. Pine not high on the beaver menu. They have to have seriously sharp teeth Pseudosasa Japonica bloomed 1st time in 25 years spelling death for all mature canes. New canes will regenerate the grove unless the larger bamboo in the background doesn't shade it out during it's comeback attempt. The small bamboo is in jeopardy, the big bamboo will not only shade it out but will draw groundwater away from it. Dog eat dog world. And giant grass seeds. So this Japonica species should be seeding across the world as many bamboo species do every 50 or 100 years.

RickB I use the same recipe that liveoak uses. There is no need to give them anything else than what Ma Nature gives them and this simple recipe is is the closest thing to flower nectar. I also bring mine up to a boil (when the bubbles break at the surface) and then let it cool before I fill the feeders up. My hummers prefer the Perky Pet feeders, too!

How funny - and I thought ours were the only ones just being picky.
I've purchased the nice glass blown feeder, only to find they wouldn't touch it.
It made a nice present to my sister though .

Hummers are attracted to red, but I think the red that Perky Pets uses is the correct one. The glass blown reds tend to be a more dark, wine colored red. They definitely like the brighter reds or even orange. I had an orange Oriole feeder that they would use, too. Funny, the Orioles didn't use it much. They'd go on the hummer feeders.

That really a fine pic Chad There really isn't all that much To smile about Inwardly we keep the faith & outwardly try to do QQuality Yohs Plenty to smile about my resting face hasn't caught up yet Quality still key though
Always interesting in big groups like these everyone always falling over themselves to apologize for unintended social slights when really we all are just trying to scope the best view

My daughter texted me at 3am. I'm no doctor but I don't think that fish hook is supposed to be in her boyfriend's finger. ... Ouch!

Fish hooks in people were common when I was a child. My Grandpa made a fish hook remover of sorts. He only had to use it on me once.

miketThat looks uncomfortable! My husband had that happen with a treble hook! He broke of the barb and pull it up with a leather man. 🫣

For those reptile aficionados out there, here's one of our resident Eastern Fence Lizards (Sceloporus undulatus), an especially big one.
