Some old button tins. My Grandma’s. There is a small envelope in it containing shell buttons. Many of them are very thin. You can see layers of different colors on some. A few have a coral/pink back. There are cards of buttons in it, too. Most purchased in the 1970’s. My G-Grandma’s and G-G-Aunts button tin. They owned a millinery/dress shop in Chippewa Falls, WI in the 1800’s. This one is about 10” wide. It contains many things other than buttons. Hat pins, thimbles, treadle sewing machine bobbins, scarf slides. Also has my G-G-Aunts guitar picks and a tuning peg from her guitar. Some of the buttons are leather. Some are leather covered in cut out metal. A few are wood. I want to turn my G-G-Aunts guitar tuning peg into a necklace. I recently found out she performed at some shows at Opera House’s in the Chippewa Falls area. I have one of her hand written books with song lyrics and places she performed. Sometimes her Brother (my G-Grandpa) would perform with her. I have his fiddle, but it is in need of major repairs. Do you have any button tins from your ancestors? Are there things other than buttons in them? Do you remember looking in the button tins as a child? Did you ever make spinners from the large coat buttons?

I don’t have a button tin, but I do have a big button jar in the shape of a honey bear.
I’ve also made button spinners. Good fun!

We have been doing scentwork with her and having a blast. Neither one of us has had a dog involved in something like this. We have even volunteered at a couple events to see how it works and have met some really cool people and dogs. Fingers crossed by next year Anja will be competing

So...just picked up the mail for today. This card was from the staff at the animal hospital who we took Trigger to for his trip across the Rainbow Bridge. I'm still choked up after seeing this card. I was shocked to see all the handwritten comments from the staff...

I'm sorry Jason. That's so hard. I got a memory of Kovu today and a year later, it still made me cry. They sure do find a way into our hearts

Today was the first day since he passed that I was home alone. My wife's either had the day off, or I worked on my day off last week. It was weird not having him here...

jasoninsd I got a similar card from the nursing staff who were taking care of Vince before he died. I've never seen that from hospital staff before. It's very touching and yeah, it makes you cry all over again. MsAli Love that you're doing scent work. I have a good friend who does that with her Cairn Terriers (she also breeds them). She does the competitions all over the state.

The Forest Service manages some land around here which includes several old plantation homes and grounds. I finally found the way and hiked to the Tibwin Plantation house early this afternoon. There aren't markers on many of these old dirt roads that let one know where the old homes are located so they aren't visited by many people. The Tibwin Plantation house has seen better days but looks to be on track to be restored. It has a new metal roof to keep the water damage down and the building has supports all around it to keep it together. south-carolina-plantations.com/charleston/tibwin.htmlFront gate - from here it was 3/4 of a mile hike to the house Back of the house Front of the house Side with chimneys supported Spanish moss in live oak tree

Was outside at work last night after a downpour. We had lots of Canadian smoke yesterday. Had to stop and take this photo of the sun. Unfortunately, my phone did not capture the sun dog, but oh well.
