I was given this today at work. It was painted by the very talented, 15 year old daughter of friends/regular customers.
When I found Sierra was no longer alive, this rock was between her paws. Her last rock gift to me.
I was very honored that Vanessa eagerly accepted my request to paint Sierra on the rock. She often comes to O'so with her parents, so I have known her for about 5 years.

Lucky niece!
Robin
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

A Niece stopped by today and I sent her home with a slab of Stinking Water oak.
At first glance, I thought this was a "dream catcher"!
On second thought...you probably made her dreams come true...so in a sense, maybe it is a dream catcher!!

Apples and more apples. The tree on the South side of my yard is loaded. It has never had that many apples. Honey Crisp. They range in size from about tennis ball to softball.
I had to deliver some canning tomatoes to my daughter yesterday, so brought a flat of apples along. Made sure there were some small, AJ sized ones. At first, she thought I had bought them. Said no thanks. Then asked if they were my apples. Gladly took them when she found out they were. She loves these apples.
The rest of the trees have over 1000 apples on them. They will be ripe in 2-3 weeks. None of the trees are sprayed, so there is an occasional worm or imperfection.

Listen to the rock. The rock knows its destiny. It will guide you in fulfilling that.
We postponed our trip near the SC coast this morning because of Hurricane Idalia which will pass very close to the campground we are going to. Will go there tomorrow afternoon right behind the storm. A few years ago we had a camper totaled when a pine tree fell over the front of it at 3:30am while we were inside it during a storm.

You guys be safe, RickB! Georgia's gonna get smacked, too, so all you folks (jamesp, brybry, et al) in FL, GA and SC be extra vigilant!

jamesp is posting Florida photos/videos on Facebook. He is currently in the middle of Idalia. Last photo, he says a power pole fell down in front of his truck. The wires took out part of his luggage rack. Photo is of part of a twisted luggage rack on the hood of his truck.
He was going to the coast/beach to try to fly his drone. That man is fearless or nuts.

This picture was from yesterday. I got to meet a couple more RTH members!!
Thunder69 (John) and his brother wyobrian (Brian) and myself. There was a LOT more family that didn't get in the photo. (Brian, myself, and John...in that order in the pic)
It was a wonderful time getting to spend part of the day with John, his brothers, and extended family out at Railroad Buttes here in South Dakota! Heck, John and Brian brought me more rocks from their neck of the woods than I think they collected out at the Buttes!
I count myself lucky to have made more friends through RTH!!!

Sphinx (Hummingbird) Moth. Unfortunately, no longer alive. Found on the edge of my driveway. I have enjoyed watching these moths dart around my yard from flower to flower.

September, 2012. A storm had just gone through. The sun was setting as I walked onto the deck. The trees were glistening. looked up and saw this. Later learned that there was large hail and a funnel cloud about 6 miles to the East.
Mammatus clouds.

A friend from college was in town for the long weekend. We ended up making a drive down to Watkins Glen for a hike. I was not anticipating the park to be so obscenely busy. It was way too crowded, but beautiful nonetheless. The pictures don't capture the environment very well - it felt unreal, like a video game world.
We also went to Taughannock Falls somewhat nearby, which allowed for a normal hiking pace. Saw a beautiful sunset on the way back home.
