My new pebble pup. Meet Tom Tom. I had plans on getting a Belgian Malinois, but this guy kinda randomly fell into my lap. Now I have two german shepherds. I was literally talking to Tommy like a day prior asking about his Belgian Malinois getting ready to make the plunge. But I guess life had another shepherd in mind for me. Wouldn't trade him for the world. Good looking pup my friend!! Although...he kinda reminds me of someone... Exactly 😂

Caught a 65 pound flathead catfish yesterday morning here in Santee SC. Was fishing from the bank with a couple heavy duty fishing rods. This is the largest I've been able to land on rod and reel since the 52 pound blue catfish I caught in 1989. WOW Rick- and NOT just a fish story- but a photo to prove it !
My question is what did you use for bait ?
A whole chicken

I think in the long run you'll be completely at peace about not getting a maligator but if it still feels like an itch that needs scratching you can always get a third dog

Patty, before I go to Santee I buy a dozen live herring back home at a bait and tackle store at Lake Murray SC. I freeze two to a ziplock bag with a little water in it. The herring are fairly small but I am able to cut three pieces of bait from each to fish with. I'm fishing off a limestone bluff in one of the deep sink holes that are around this side of the lake. 25 pound test line with a three foot, 60 pound leader, 3oz flat sinker with a float and large catfish hook. The float keeps the bait off the bottom and keeps me from hanging up. I thought that I was hung up on a tree limb and was able to get him about half way to the bank before I realized that I had a larger fish. I prefer the smaller fish but have to use "terminal tackle" just in case a large one gets on. I fish just before the sun rises for a couple hours in the morning.

Thank you Rick, I guess I'd have to make room in the freezer first for giant cat fish !

We regularly smoke salmon (hard to stop my husband from buying it every time we go to Sam's!) Sockeye is a favorite here, but any salmon will do.. We also somewhat regularly do ham, turkey, Jerk chicken, pork butt, Brie cheese with jalapenos & hard boiled eggs (not with the cheese). We tried hamburger- weren't worth the trouble. A couple of years ago we even got a stove top smoker that we use for smaller things, like the Brie. Works great as long as you have a serious kitchen fan (we do). www.amazon.com/Nordic-Ware-36556-Stovetop-Kettle/dp/B07FPXMHKFEnjoy your sausages, Patty

I actually went down to my shop yesterday and builta smoker box real quickly. The recipe I used called for the sausages to be smoked at 175 to 185°. I think I can keep the kamado that low with a little charcoal box, but I would have had to lay the sausages on the grill. I wanted to hang them. It worked pretty well.

OK rockbrain , since we're having a smoker show & tell I'd thoguht I'd show off ours. We have the "find free on the side of the road" smoker- but it's been going for at least 6 years (but I think it needs another paint job). We did improve it with door gaskets & a new thermometer.
Here's our paleolithic smoker : But paleolithic or not it does a good job on salmon .
There were originally 3 pieces- but we ate one right off the smoker (yummmm!) Now I know that you thought smoked eggs were a little weird- but you haven't lived until you've had smoked egg salad. Note- eggs are pre-boiled , sliced in half, and put on a pan full of ice. 30 minutes
Hope your sausages came out as good. Patty

Patty liveoak, free is the best kind! The sausages came out great. Only my second time making them. A lot less shrinkage this time with the lower heat. The salmon looks amazing! I might have to give the eggs a try.

St Mark's River
We played hooky & went exploring- a lovely day on a lovely spring fed river.
Vallisneria waving in the current:
Newport Spring.
one of the springs that feed the river.
It's a smelly sulfur mineral spring - but pretty.
Life is too short to work all the time !

this is how the ice crystal forms when you have a air leak to the inside of a huge freezer. I guess ice is also a rock, right? and water is lava and we are lava drinkers.

Took them a while to get used to me and Vince, but they are big babies once they know you. They always want attention and like to lean against you to get it. Near knock me over when they do that. Pure muscle.

A little project I recently finished. It was old & rusty, but rather than throw it away I decided to bring it back to life. It was a fun project. Those turned out beautiful!!!! Are they for the yard? Not sure what they are, but I sure like them. Love the colors. Yes, they are outside on the fence. I don’t remember where they came from, or why 2 of them have those knobs lol.
