I think you'd better keep Jax out of that one-that looks dangerous ! Patty She wanted to be with me while i was digging. That darker stuff under her and to the right is all opal.

Saw this cool creature this morning by the turtle pens, it's a Rainbow Scarab Beetle (Phanaeus vindex). He's (or she) is the North American representative of the Dung Beetle Tribe (are you paying attention, Randy RWA3006 ) And a fine specimen he is, the photo does not do the incredible iridescent color justice.

This picture is from my neighbor's yard and is an Asian variety. I am watering their plants for a couple of days and wondered what is was myself. The phone ID says it is Sinkwa Towelsponge(Luffa acutangula) and pictures match online. My neighbor uses the young fruit as a vegetable.

Victor, I believe the symbol on the microphone is an early one for "Samsung Electronics".

Photo of the night - Night-blooming Cereus I think it only happens once a year, that we actually remember to go back out before bed & actually see the bloom.
They only bloom for one night and it smells wonderful. The bloom is 4-5" across.

Our dragonfruits bloom at night, also a strong pleasant flower remindful of honeysuckle. we had half bloom one night, the other half the next night. Elizabeth stayed up till the pollen turned to powder to make sure to pollunate them the first night, second night she was up at dawn and the flowers were covered with bees, so now we know no worries, and we'll see if we get our first crop. Edit: more likely birds will get them...

Night blooming cereus is a great herb for the heart. It is a mild cardiac glycoside source, so it lowers blood pressure, slows the heart and strengthens the contractions. Great for arrhythmias of weak heart contractions.
