Took my grandson and one of our sons rockhounding today. Got skunked for Fairburns but still was fun. I guess there was a group of 40 from Colorado here for two days and they only found 2, and another group out there today. Oh well. That's Jackson at the top of the hill, he's 9.

It is a little less exciting here on the edge of the prairie (northwest Missouri). The soybeans are just starting to turn yellow in the distance and the hay fields have been cut for the last time this year. Chris

Oh deer. These guys were hanging out in our yard at lunch. I pulled all of this garden a few weeks ago- now you'll understand why I keep tomatoes and melons in the dog pen! 🙂

The Orb Weavers seem to be doing well in 2024. They are building webs all over my house. Must be prepping for Halloween...

Miket, we used to have black widows in Jacksonville, Fl. They especially liked rotten limbs or wood that had an open area above ground. My mother was a biology teacher so I got to see a great variety of what was in the natural environment.

Persimmon crop and local butterfly. We had a cool spell during bloom and flower abscission soon followed. Tamopan is a variety that seems to set well with cool weather but is mushy when it loses astringency.

Squirrels? Been living in my house for the last 12 years. We've had deer and antelope within a quarter mile of the house the whole time...but this year has been the first year the deer have been coming into the yard. They had a hey-day with what was left of the tomatoes!! LOL Now they've been hanging out in the neighbor's yard eating the apples. I think they're getting drunk off the ones rotting on the ground! LOL
