Hi All,
After each cycle of 60/90, the volume of material will decrease. If I put a batch through 5 - 6 cycles won't I need to add material into the barrel to bring things to the proper level (2/3" to 3/4" full). Should I just add more plastic pellets when needed?
Thanks
Scott

hi scott i dont know what size barrel your useing but what i do is rinse the rock and barrel about every 7 days and sort what looks good and just throw another handfull or whats needed to bring back to good level i use two 15lb barrels to do just rough so i just keep them full at all times in the later stages if you dont have any on the side thats ready for that stage add pellets

i don't use plastic pellets in 60/90, but i do keep a supply of "filler" rocks that i just keep using, usually already rounded quartz or driveway stone, do-over rocks sometimes from other cycles get another chance to make the grade.
i only have the 3 pound tumblers, so after the coarse grind step is complete i use the pellets to make up the difference in volume, or again, stones from other higher batches that are not fit for jewelry to make up the difference.
the more you tumble, the more you will have options like re-using stone, but if nothing else, use the pellets, just don't re-use the pellets in any other step, keep a baggies for each phase of pellets.

Forgive my ignorance, as I am just starting out.
I was thinking it would be good to have my Thumler Model B running coarse continuously, recharging every week. Each week I would pull out the rocks that are ready for the next stage in my Lortone 33B. In order to make up the volume that is lost during this coarse stage each week, is it OK for me to add new, untumbled, completely rough rocks to my Thumler? Or is these new rocks going to mess up the smoother rocks (not ready yet) that I already have going in the coarse stage?
I am just curious what everyone else does since I have no idea.

Yes, Morpheus (God of dreams!), you can add rough or smooth rock, makes no difference. Just be sure to add rock of the same hardness as what is already in the barrel.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I would always keep adding rock of the same hardness. Now I get it! This method makes it much easier.

I personally add plastic pellets and when I rinse my rocks I put them in a seperate bucket and fill it with water the pellets float and I can skim them off with half of a large tea strainer, it works great and I can let them dry in a bowl and then save them for the next batch I do. Tami
