i was STILL watching black and white for the moon landing, but i was glued to it. my folks didn't get a color TV until after i moved out and I had bought a color one before they did in 1975!!! and it was a Quasar and I still have it and it still works, so there .....ok, the picture isn't as bright as it once was, but it's got a lot of miles on it. who knows what lurks in the hearts of evil men.....? I have a lortone 3a which is about 3 lbs, and I use about 2 Tbsp. of borax, in fact I use 2 Tbsp. of grit in the different stages. I found that if I put more than that even after 2 weeks I still have some grit in the bottom of the barrel, I still get great results. Tami

ok, so i DIDN'T burp my barrels at all yesterday and today, the lids were almost popping off a few....the bottoms don't deform, just the metal bit of the lid starting to "creep" out of the rubber lip......
i have well water, so maybe that is it, i use borax, that helps.....but, i still have to check often.

Tami, I have also cut back from 3 tbls. to 2 tbls in my 3 pounders and sometimes still have grit in the bottom of the barrel.
I thought it was because I overloaded them, so time before last when I checked my barrels, I took some stuff out and lowered the volume to about 60% and recharged. Yesterday, after 10 days there was still grit on the bottom of the barrel. The rocks were shaping up nicely, so I may be cutting back to 1 and a half tbls!

Llana, As an experiment I puy pellets into my 220 (that's coarse in the vibe) and after a week the grit was in the bottom of the bowl, virtualy intact. Took out the pellets and just needed 2 more days. Have you pulled out the pellets?

I had a small amount of gas..............in my big barrel........ I opened it after 3 days tumbling to check the progress. Rocks seem to round off now instead of making only flat stones. No borax ever used.
Speed is now 38 revs against 30 revs before.
Yehaaa I am on the right track .

And connrock, I love the old radio shows, too. Wasn't around to hear um live, but I got the radio bug from public radio, and I have downloaded bunches of them. I like the spooky ones, so may fav's are the Inner Sanctum, CBS Radio Mystery Theater, and of course, the shadow, too.

Cookie, the grit on the bottom is in my rotary tumblers. One has the parrot wing in it and I have to have the pellets to get the volume to at least 60%.
I only use pellets in the vibe tumbler when I am in the polish stage. Since I started using 2 teaspoons of grit (100, 120/220, 700, 1200 and polish) and 2 tablespoons of water if the rocks are wet and 4 if dry, I haven't had anymore "stuck to the bottom in grit and yuck" problems. I do clean the rocks and bowl before recharging. I think that also prevents the yuck and stuck problems.
