Finished these today. One will go into the contest. These all have a story.
Light tent pics. Sun pics tomorrow.
This bone was too good not to use the little wedge I had. The bottom is almost as thin as it started. The top tapered to about 8mm. Took awhile, but I got it. This is almost buff top.
Took this from a nice little rhodochrosite slab I picked up. I cut this right out of the heart because I wanted to save that cool pattern.
This sat on my worktop for over a year. I figured it was time to do it. Any time I do rounds, I'm nervous to mess it up. Imagine how it was for me to do a round of really nice wingate. I took my time. Very, very few pits. This is 34mm.
This is a generous gift from miket. I cut this freeform almost the same size as the piece I got. I wanted to save as much as I could because I love how small the pattern is. It's just right for a cab. That's not always the case. Love it.
I bought this very small slabette as Boulder opal, but really you could say koroit or Yowah. In fact, I would go with Yowah nut. Anyway, I was thrilled when in the grind more and more precious opal popped up... and I was just happy with the pattern. This took a really nice polish and has that dark background that makes everything pop. Wish I could find THIS more often.
yeah... excuse my dirty nails from cabbing...

Way to kick the season off, Tela! So much beauty and color, and that boulder opal really takes the cake. Great work, can’t wait to see how you set them.

Gorgeous cabs, Tela!
I think the boulder is Koroit instead of Yowah, but I may be wrong. They are all boulder opals, though. You sure did that cab mega justice.

Yeah, it's really hard to tell which is which sometimes and my piece was too small to tell, either.

The boulder opal is positively psychedelic, but the rhodochrosite is my favorite - banded + brecciated!

Those are all beautiful, but that opal is just wild! What an exciting and fortunate experience to have more fire revealed as you removed material!
