Paul sent me a box of goodies about two months ago. There was a heel with knife edges and nuclear craters in the middle. Finding a relatively flat area with a pattern was going to be a challenge, Since it was the good stuff and my trim saw was still set up, I thought I would give it a try. 35x18 freeform through 280 soft.

There's a special satisfaction when something can be made when it looks like there is nothing. When I have a lot of particular material, I don't bother with the problem child. Scarce material shouldn't be wasted unless a person has a lot.
Making a cab from the piece can be done, but getting a good pattern requires luck. I cut out a fairly even section with interesting attributes. Cleaned up the edges and ground of vugs before I could even consider framing the pattern. I need to make some minor adjustments but I could never expect to get the pattern close to centered.

Completed. Polish is less than I was hoping for. Way to go Steven, That is nice and sharp the way i like ‘em! I have had my best luck Shining that stuff up using only diamonds. 3k/5k Cerium or any other kind of oxide seems to have sn adverse effect. Just my 2 cents

I usually polish with diamond paste 100k. I pre-polish with 3k and 14k wheels. I have another canvas pad with 50k paste. I tried it and it didn't improve the polish. I made another cab with some other MH I got recently and the polish was the same. I bought a big piece of MH that is not like the old stock. A lot of quartz and vugs and it takes a great polish. I generally polish all material to 100k so I didn't pay much attention to how the cab looked coming off the 14k.
I have cut a lot of freeforms with sharp points, but given choice I like symmetrical

I left the cab in the freezer over night and the cab wouldn't come off the dop. So I did some experimentation. I started with the 3,000 wheel and the polish might have been better than the 100k. I went to the 14,000 wheel and the polish is better than the 100k. Thanks Paul.
