Until you look under that skin, you'll never know.

I was at French Creek a few weeks ago. My GF slipped and fell on a cactus and we had to drive all the way to Custer to get all of the thorns removed. We did find a few Fairburns though.

Friday again, here's today's...another beauty is in the eye of the beholder Fairburn. Not the prettiest, but I like the little guy. Thanks for looking.

Oh man.... just one cut! I'd love to see a face cut.
ETA OOOps, I was replying to the last one, but this one is cool, too.

Nice miket . Take the little guy back and let him grow up. Don't I wish, Rick! I haven't been able to bring myself to practice catch and release when it comes to Fairburns- or any other rock, apparently!

Ok, for once I remembered to grab a Fairburn last night when I was dremeling. Actually I grabbed 3, as mentioned in a different thread I'm testing out a new light source. Happy Friday! An oldie, some people said it looks like a piece of meat... Then this guy... And finally 3 sides of this one... Thanks for looking.

You don't have to slab them, but at least try to polish one face to let their real true beauty show. Those would all be spectacular once faced.

Edit: If they were mine I would totally take some of the best areas to the wheels though!

Dunno man, I really like those. How stable are they? Wouldn't seem they would have fractures to me

Dunno man, I really like those. How stable are they? Wouldn't seem they would have fractures to me I'd have to say it varies. We've cut some agates with Fairburn fortification inside and they cut like any other agate. Some look like they might not survive the saw. Someday I'll suck it up and experiment.

Dunno man, I really like those. How stable are they? Wouldn't seem they would have fractures to me Dunno man I am begging to think he’s lying and going to a rock shop and taking pictures instead of hounding them. They would have to be pretty fractured up in order not to take a good grinding and polish with out slab in them up. As far as that goes agate is a very hard stone to cut they are very solid and dense. Referring to the solid ones to start with. With out fractures Go back and look at those huge boulders that run for 5 weeks or more in a tumbler with grit packing and filling the fractures and NOT falling apart. Shazam they took it, then they were polished if agate was as cheesy as your trying to say fairburns are they would have fell apart.

Like I said, they're just like any other agate. Pretty sure no one said they're cheesy and will fall apart. Some have fractures, some don't. Also as previously stated, I'm told that they have more value to collectors in their natural state. And here in a few I'll head to the rock shop and take another picture...

Some of you might remember this guy, sorry. A little fellow, about an inch long is all. He got shot I believe but he'll survive. The hole didn't go all of the way through. Happy Friday, friends!
