Hi Rock Trooper Just quick shot of my Big Red project been doing last couple daze's. I need to pin it and hang it before I do the pin tho -- I can tell from the picture need to still do some profiling shaping. It amazing. I thought it was shaped good enough. But the photo tells a different story I think we all know that moral well Any comments advice is always welcomed Thanks Ed of c arse

My wife got a degree in studio art and said there can be a push/pull effect because of the pattern. In fact sometimes the shape needs to be adjusted to make it look symmetrical. Best check for symmetry is to trace the cab on to a piece of paper.

Pictures always show the little flaws, especially when they're blown up.
It's gonna be an absolute stunner when you get it finished!

I do try for symmetry even taken more time to calibrate the 2 halves still get wonky don't want to turn it into a science particularly a free form heart is an art that I haven't completely mastered yet the art of the heart I like that

Thanks Evan !! the bigguns they are an art indeed as mentioned earlier they exaggerate the wonkiness of the art but that no reason to cheat on the heart by going penny

I made this cab and to frame the pattern on the top, I went hearty. Not much symmetry on this one.

Do you glue the two preform halves back-to-back for shaping, Ed? Or do you focus on matching them after they're glued side-by-side?
This one is going to be hot!

I used to grind the 2 halves separately now I adhere the 2 preforms together and final grind them as close as i can get-- to calibrated epoxy them together as got be as precise as possible also in example-- the top homps need to squared off always figured the point will be the easy part to even yet balancing a free hand heart is mind boggling the cleaves need to have the same angles... mostly sides need the right slope and the point is also not the easiest part ha guess a single stone scribed template heart are difficult nuff probably the most difficult lapidary shape well free handing one has got me bested we get fussy critical - ya know...the darn jewel biz that its nature just trying to make a rock heart pendant that can be slapped on turning into a quest 10,000 years ago when we were knapping for survival I'd be a hot rock heart pendant guy presently it just another polish stone in the way future-- they'll be hot again Thanks opalpyrexia Gary! appreciate it sorry about the novel but I'm locked down w/ caddywhompis heart

I’m hoping to have a group shot coming up shortly with all RTH pendants in it. I have 10 or so, and one more is arriving from Guam today.
