Hello all, I have a Dremel I just bought (see link) and I tried all the attachments to drill holes into rocks I have for jewelry making and none of the ones that came with the kit worked. Is there a specialty attachment for the Dremel that I can buy that will be able to drill holes in various rock types?

You need a core drill to drill a hole through a rock. Must also do it in shallow water to protect both drill and rock. Good luck!

Is there a specialty attachment for the Dremel that I can buy that will be able to drill holes in various rock types? I use a drill press to drill holes in rocks and glass...you can buy a drill press made for the Dremel but in my case I modified a drill press originally intended for a corded drill (cause I had it laying around) . I'm guessing you could drill a hole holding the Dremel in your hand but I've never done that. I use diamond burr bits (Amazon, hardware stores etc.) they come in different sizes...I use the 3mm ball size. As Pat said, you should do the drilling under water which cools the bit so it lasts longer and prevents rock/glass dust from flying around. I use a "pulsing" action to drill the hole: lower the bit into the rock (which is under water), grind some, then lift the bit to let water circulate around the bit and in the hole, repeat until hole is done. Takes longer this way but your bit will last a lot longer than if you push through in one go if you get my drift . Hope that helps...
