The cages of coprolites got buried again and have gone back into hibernation.

Buried yet again. I'll have to shovel a path to them if I want to start cutting any in the near future. Record snow fall is really putting the brakes on rock hounding around here.

At least when your snow melts, it exposes really cool dino crap. When ours finally melts, it's going to expose 6 months worth of dog crap!! LOL

I'll toss that idea out to my wife...I'll see if that's something she'd want to tackle! LOL

Notice the distinctive rind on this one. It seems prominent in almost all of my specimens.

Notice the distinctive rind on this one. It seems prominent in almost all of my specimens. Carbon based units left on earth's surface deteriorate and disperse into the ground mass. Their only chance at being preserved is to be buried. They can be altered if penetrated by groundwater. Groundwater usually only caries easily dissolved elements like calcium, potassium, and sodium. Only on rare occasions is silica available, and even then, only in very small amounts. There is ONE HUGE EXCEPTION - SHOCK WAVES! Whether from impacts, volcanic explosions, or earthquakes, Shock Waves shatter rocks, breaking silica bonds, and groundwater grabs on to make mega-amounts of silica gel. I submit that here in earthquake prone Utah, your specimens soaked in pools of it, saturating their outer portions.
