I got to looking closely at this one and found where a void had filled with some short plumes within.

RWA3006Any idea where this might have been from? I received it from Walt. He said it was coprolite, but did not have further info. I love all the colors in it. Would have never thought it was coprolite. Thanks.

fernwood Beth yes indeed it is coprolite and I'm pretty confident it is some that came from me. I've swapped a good bit of coprolite with my pal Walt and thus we accomplish our insidious mission of saturating the RTH community with coprolite. That's a pretty one and I'm glad you like it.

Nice, but looks like Mr. Hadrosaur had a parasite.

Where did it come from, if you know? It is so different than most I have seen.

I've been cutting poo that I got from Randy for the last couple days and this was one of my favorites out of the batch...I don't think there were any I cut that weren't in my favorites though! LOL I saw this one from the end and rather than cut longer slabs, I wanted to follow the pattern I saw on the end. One of these looks like a bovine head to me, so I'm going to try and keep that one as a flatter dome (which I haven't done yet) and try to make this into a bolo tie inlay thingy. I'm going to face polish the end cut and leave the other side alone (the side pictured). In a couple of the pictures you can see where half of the "whatever it is" looks like a shattered quartz-like material...but only half of it... I'll probably cut the preforms out tomorrow and get ready to cab these... hopefully this week. I'll post pictures of the cabs when they're done...whether they're crappy crap or good crap.

Sometimes those sparkly areas are pockets of calcite formations within the mostly agate specimen. They can be heck for undercutting in the polishing stage.

Gotta love sparkly crap! I got a good laugh out of that post. With a 9-year old daughter obsessed with anything that sparkles plus two kittens that lick and chew on anything and everything, I often find a lot of sparkly crap when I clean the litter box. Archeologists are going to be very confused when they uncover those fossils millions of years from now.

Those look great, Jason! Such a cool pattern in those, especially the bull! That would look very cool as a bolo tie.

Catching up with this popular thread again, I found myself laughing out loud at the poo sauna and all the enablers. LOL! I can't help but to think it would stink, though.

What do YOU have against "stink purdy"? I'm disappointed in jasoninsd. He used to be a plain talker. Now he is using all those high fallutin' break-teeth words.

I have an idea this is not the way you would have cut this one. I hope you didn't cringe when you saw how I cut it...or that you don't regret sending this one to me. When I saw how the pattern was set out in this one, all I could think of was trying to get as many cabs out of it that I could. I was really happy with how this one cut when I was cutting the preforms on this one today. It acts like the shaping will be easier than I thought. I'll keep my toes crossed on the undercutting in the calcite formations. LOL This area is pretty much filled with farmers and ranchers, so I'm sure I'll find someone who'll want it. Granted, I was 10 at the time and living in Texas. And it was over 30 years ago...
