I've been trying to interpret these turds for a while and I think there's a lot to be learned. It could be something as simple as the iron oxide only saturated so far before the process stopped. I don't know.

James has pushed it forward to 140 Million Years ago - UPHEAVAL! I want to know what the radiation from the Upheaval Impact did to the life forms of thee time.

Thanks for that 1daveI can gaze at that chart for hours and it's so amazing to grasp the time scale it spans. More time elapsed between the Morrison and the KT Boundary that between the KT and us. Now wrap your mind around it's significance! It's just amazing to contemplate what has transpired on this globe since it's beginning.

Sometimes during the pursuit of coprolite you gotta take a lunch break. Randy I love this picture! It looks like you guys parked the truck in the right spot to load that sloping rock straight down into the bed! "Okay honey, go up and start pushing!" As I was writing this, I got a mental picture of her riding that rock "Slim Pickens Style" as it slid into the bed of the truck! LOL - I've seen the pics of her riding the large pet wood logs! LOL

Reminds me, I met Slim in a hunting camp back around 1974. He was an expert horseman and a lot of fun, especially for a teenaged guy like me. We were after elk and I remember Slim was toting a 300 Weatherby. He didn't have any coprolite though.

Part of the fun of coprolite hunting is all the incidental finds. Here's some old uranium claim markers probably from the 1950's.

Another common encounter is the occasional packrat midden. Some get huge and have been used for centuries.

Some of the best fun I've ever had is getting to know good people on rock hounding trips. Here's Lorri making friends with somebody's pet.

Well, it was good to see you guys didn't get skunked on the trip! Oh wait...I guess you guys really REALLY got skunked! LOL Great picture of Lorri and her new friend! That is something you definitely don't see every day! (And definitely one you want to have as a "friend" versus foe!)

Sure is, and playful too. I was surprised how affectionate it was. It was found on a ranch as a kitten and after momma didn't come back for a couple days it was rescued and bottle fed.

It looks like the two of you know how to have a great time. Between riding petrified logs and snuggling skunks, there never seems to be a dull moment.
We met a fun little skunk at a nature center a couple years back and they are entertaining little critters. Especially when you know they aren’t going to spray you.
