Hello,
I got introduced to rockhounding at jade cove, Big Sur. Thinking about lapidary, I used to carve a lot of bone and wood but never much stone.
Then I went looking for Guadalupe jasper. Didn’t find anything with poppies, but found some yellow/ red rocks that didn’t scratch with a key and didn’t break apart when dropped, with quartz veins.
If anyone knows more about places in the South Bay or how to really identify jasper, I admit I’m at a loss 😁
Great forum!
Sean

Welcome from California. Could you post a picture of the red and yellow rock? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, from the Desert Southwest, Sean! Interesting, I used to do a lot of offroading (Jeep) and hunting in the Loma Prieta vacinity. I look forward to my next trip out to Jade Cove to scrounge up some new rocks to bring home.
