Next concern is the finish steps. Question is - will one run of silicon carbide 500 running in the vibe remove the pits and rough surface from the aggressive coarse silicon carbide(glass with 48 written on it) ? If not then another tablespoon of silicon carbide could be added at say 12 hours without doing a clean out for more material removed. Or wait it out and see if the glass successfully goes thru pre-polish and polish. If the pits from the coarse SiC are not removed by the single dose of SiC 500 a poor polish may result. Another factor is when using aluminum oxide 220 for pre-polish quite a bit more material is removed. The AO 220 will break down to pre-polish(or even to polish like AO 500 does). Regardless, final step will be a run with Rock Shed AO 14,000 polish. Decided to not add more SiC 500. And hope the AO 220 removes the pits possibly missed by the SiC 500.

My thick sticky vibe slurry made from sugar. Since my hopper is steel the numbing effect of the thick slurry is easily noticeable by the sound made. The 2nd video makes a rattling sound since the slurry was wetted down for clean out. I avoid this rattling sound by thickening the slurry.
After adding water sound has changed. This sound is avoided.

The right glass is after 12 hours in the vibe with AO 220. No defined optical reflection. The left has seen 48 hours, note that it has a defined optical image of an electric lamp bulb and shade. I estimate the AO 220 has broken down to about AO 1000 at this 48 hour point. Target will be 72 hours so that a fair polish has begun, this would be about an AO 2000 to AO 3000 finish. Reflectivity is the only way I know to measure finishes in the 500 to 1000 to 2000 to 3000 range. Reflectivity is accurate and takes a bit of practice to get used to. I always check a couple of samples at 1-2-3 days when going from 220 to pre-polish using this method. It reduces bad surprises(failed polish). Next step is AO 14,000 polish. For it to lay a polish down a 2000 to 3000 grit finish is needed beforehand. ETA It looks like on 48 hour run of SiC 500 prepped the surface for my AO 220 pre-polish just fine. AO 220 is NOT pre-polish, but after 2 days it does break down reliably to 2000-3000 grit pre-polish. The beauty of AO.

Just another tumble Bro. Never gets old. I have glass from Poland, Italy, China, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Greece, USA, Germany, Sweden, Spain and a few others in this load. All found in some back alley thrift store in Atlanta. Some new stuff from discount stores. Some is blown by some of the most talented glass artists in the world. Our parents and grandparents probably paid $10,000 for all these vases. James may have $100 - $150 in them. The diversity and time spent sorta blows my mind. I know every little nook and cranny thrift shop in big Atlanta and have them on a route where they can be hit in a big circle.

The ETSY/EBAY crowd buys them up before a dust particle can sit on them. They are a trendy item. Goodwill stores are full of internet sellers/collectors too.

Yea, unfortunately it’s the same way here. I used to run a huge circle and hit a bunch of thrift stores and found some nice stuff, until all the Ebayers were there first thing in the morning and would hang out there all day.

I've been hitting the thrift stores looking for glass to do my own tumble with. What games are you looking for, specifically?

Lol, that’s a tough question. I owned a little over 1300 board games at one point. I’m down to 1062 atm and have 542 on my want list currently. Yea, I’m a bit of a board gamer lol. Here’s a link to my current want list if interested. I also have all my owned games listed on there as well. My wanted games list.
Sorry for the hi-jack. You can pm me if you have any questions or want to to talk games. 😃

Boardgamers AND rock tumblers?!! I have found my people!!! RocksInNJ , No luck here at thrift stores for games either really; the ebayers and the resellers have gotten the thrift market down to a science it seems. Sometimes a diamond in the rough but it takes a lot of patience to get there (and a lot of time). Friend of mine goes almost daily and has found some real treasures, but I don't have that kind of time. I've got rocks to tumble for pete's sake!! I may have some items on your wishlist, I'll take a look & send you a message through BGG for that though. I'm starting to see why tumbling/thrifting/gaming are the perfect trifecta.... jamesp, your glass is coming along great. Can't wait to see a final polish on it. Stunning stuff!
