I was thinking of making some tombstone cabs where the buyer could select their own epitaph. I thought that a computer driven laser engraver would work. I wouldn't attempt it by hand. The equipment varies in price from cheap to expensive. I wonder how much it would cost for something that could engrave stone. Also, if I would need to color the engraving and how difficult that would be.

My current business plan is to get rock, make cabs, sell cabs and buy better rock. I don't have a big pile or rocks but do have some slabs of nice material that doesn't have a pattern suitable to make cabs.

Why not use marble and (or) granite stones... Plentiful and many colors...

Without a lot of research, I'm thinking that what I want wouldn't be affordable. I saw one on ebay for around $400 that mentioned stone. I messaged the seller giving a mohs range and the response was in effect 'you need to get a bigger boat.'

Well they sandblast tombstones so I would guess you could sand blast the puedo tombstones and coffins.

I bet goths would love it.m A good way to put dark rock, like obsidian and “black” jade, to use. slightly bigger ones would probably sell as pet memorials (for people who have the pets cremated, or have small pets they want to bury).

Lots of pet memorial markers available. Also, plastic and wood custom engraved items. I have some Willow Creek and Blue Mountain without a pattern and takes a nice polish. I was thinking of something that could be worn with a humorous statement. At this time, I believe the equipment would cost more than I would want to spend.

Maybe not worth it for you then, but people to spend $100M a year on pet funerals. Not inconceivable that there’d be a market. As for the numerous statement... Halloween is nearly upon us. 💀👻
