Hello everyone! I've always loved minerals and rocks/stones in general. My Mom used to tell everyone that I always came home with two things; all my pockets full of rocks and another in my hand, haha. But since the pandemic hit I've been doing a lot more tumbling and am now looking for a flat lap. I'd mainly like to use it to polish stuff I cut. I sometimes sell, but not usually for profit, just to buy something or on Facebook, Etsy etc. I want something that will last, and I've looked at the Ameritool and High Tech varieties - mainly because those are the only ones I've found so far. I think an 8" would work better...am I right?
Any recommendations?

I have the 8" Ameritool flat lap. IMHO, it is a much better machine than the High Tech. As for six vs eight inch, get the larger. You can always work smaller stones on the larger model, but not vice-versa. It's just like picking a tumbler brand/model/style or size (or saw, or...). Know how you will use it, do your homework, and get the best/biggest one you can afford. You can go budget, but most people find they need more sooner rather than later. This hobby is addicting, and most of us always want bigger/better. It's all about the fun!

Welcome from Washington. I also have the 8" Ameritool flat lap and it's a good machine.

Welcome!
My husband and I both have Hi-Tech 8" machines. I've had mine for almost 20 years and it's still going strong. I have nothing bad to say about it. I've never used the Ameritool, so can't speak to that brand.

I have an 8" flat lap. I have used it enough to say that I would not go smaller, but that is a personal choice and depends mostly on the size of the rocks you intend to play with.
