In the rock and Gem mag. that just came out there is a topic on saw coolant. And if you read it it will tell you that what everyone is using is allright to use in their saws. It is a good article. I'm not going to say anymore about it. You will have to read it yourself. Also, I e-mailed the guy who wrote the story to tell him about a guy i know here in Lafayette and I told him about this great site we have hoping he will write an article about us. Or at least put the web site in the mag. We'll see what happens.

Brett, some of us don't get Rock and Gem mag. Me, for one! So, please tell us more about what they say on coolants. BE and I just got a new 10' tile saw and we have been talking about coolants. Sure would be a help to us if you, or someone else who has read the article would post some more info.

Rock & Gem's website is: www.rockngem.comI highly recommend the magazine. I especially enjoy their "field trip" articles. These are stories written by people who go out to various spots to collect stuff, then describe what it was like and what they found. I'll probably never get to any of these spots, but it's fun to read about them. I haven't got the latest issue yet, but I guess can expect it soon.

ok...the guy who wrote the article is William A. Kappele. At the end of the article he states that if you have any suggestins or comments about the article to email him at: quappelle@cox.net. He didn't necesssarily recommend these, but they were Readers Tips. The first coolant he talks about is called Corvus. Texaco markets Corvus here (in the US) but it is called Canopus 13. The second coolant he refers to is antifreeze (they used the newer, less toxic antifreeze). Quite a few were using this. Another coolant used was hydralic oil. The last coolant he talked about is baby oil. Seems as though one guy had to have the coolant pass his wife's 'smell test'. It worked fine in the saw and baby oil passed the test. His wife said the smell reminds her of the good old days when there were babies in the house. The saws they used these coolants in ranged from the 6-inch saw up to the 20- inch saw.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Duke sumed it all up. I talked to the editor and I told him that I use food grade mineral oil. I think it works great. It has a high visosity and beings it is food grade it is not that harmful. But i still reconmend a resperator if you get outside mist. I told him about this site and he said that he is compiling a list of rock sites and he wanted this web site to put in the magazine. So, hopfully soon our site will be in Rock and Gem mag. Hope you dont mind Andy. ;D
