Hi all.
I was wondering if any of you guys wanted to trade your stuff on the main .com site?
This is my plan for those who may want to.
1. You send me pictures of what it is you'd like to sell, along with a text description.
2. I create an area of the site called "Visitors and Members Sale Area" or something like that.
3. For anyone selling more than one item at any given single point in time, they get a page of their own.
4. For those wanting to sell single items (say a batch of rock - or an old tumbler), they can do so on a collective page - ensure its bulked up enough.
5. You will need - along with the item info - to send me a mail address that you would like prospective purchasers to get into contact with you via. This I will place on the net.
Post your thoughts folks, there are plenty of visitors to the main site who dont make it over here to the "dark side" - and one never knows - they may want an item from you.
One golden rule though - no brand new rock tumblers or grits for sale (well maybe the odd one if you really need to shift one) - as Im having a dabble at that through Scientifics Online.
Anyone up for it? Could be fun.
Items can be these - plus whatever else you may think of.
Rough, Polished stone, Wire Wraps, Jewelry, Machinery (used), Ornaments (say a vase full of rocks?)
etc
Let me know on here what you think. Also its time I ran a competition of sorts on rth now - as Im thinking it may help us grow faster by people entering and bookmarking etc.
Cheers Andy

Sounds like a good plan. Just want to add, I appreciate all the work you do here. I do web design and also have a forum so know what's involved. Thanks for all of this Andy!!
Cher
PS. If anyone has any questions on resizing or reducing pics so they don't take so long to load, just holler. I'm online mornings and evenings so a pic can be dropped in my email and back to you resized quickly. (If you see me in here, drop me an IM and let me know to check my email.)

I think it is brilliant. It would be free advertising for us and with the traffic that is going through the site, it would display our wares to plenty of prospects. Will we be trying to undercut each other with our prices? Are there going to be a few more ground rules? Hmmmmmm...I'm thinking. Will there be a limit to how much we can post? I'm just brain storming Andy. See what else you get for feedback. Good concept!

Hello Andy, This is an excellent idea Count me in! I would also be interested in donating some items that when sold, the money would go to you to help with the efforts that you put into this board for us. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to be able to get on the board and have some fun! Again, THANK YOU! Have a great weekend, John

Hi Andy,, Great idea,,,, Count me in. One thing i'd like to ask is are you sure you want to let visitors sell here? You may get swamped with dealers using your web site to advertise here once the word gets out. As others have said,,,,,, Thank you ever so much for all the time, effort and money you have given to provide us all with this fantastic place to meet, learn and show off our wears!! You're a very generous person,,,,,,,, Tom

Great Idea! And I must say, I agree with conrock, it should be a members only deal. Maybe even an agreement at sign up that you won't push a personal website or business... Maybe have a "looking for" section so you don't post your personal wares unless asked for. I'm making jewlery now, and I can see not pushing my stuff unless someone has a specific request. Good thinking, Andy! cookie

Ok, heres how I can get the ball rolling. I cannot allow auto posting of items for obvious reasons, so I have set up an email address for you all to send stuff over to me. items@rocktumblinghobby.com If you take a look at www.rocktumblinghobby.com/Lapidary-Supplies/Lapidary-supplies.htmlYou can see the basic first up format I would like to post items into. So - lets say you have some wirewraps, or guitar picks - send over to me a large picture, description, cost, and your contact address to items@rocktumblinghobby.com, and I will format and place them online. I will create a small image like the one shown of your item, and make this link to the full image with further detail on a separate page - like postage costs? You may want to say where you are located - its up to you. Bear in mind that the site gets around 200 new visitors per day - so its not a heavy traffic site - but that does add up to around 6000 people per month. It may be that you get in touch with new people, etc aswell - so there are various benefits even if no actual sales occur. So - fire away with a starter for six to items, and we can take it as it comes and see how it pans out. I cant really define "rules" etc - as it will just be a case of seeing whats what. Cheers and good luck with it. Andy

KrazyD - your pic is up on the main site now - I had a problem with the mails being deleted by a spam filter but the address "items@rocktumblinghobby.com" works fine now.
