I am used to my Sierra Dog giving me rocks, but this was the first time my horse, Satin gave me one. I went out to do AM chores today. Satin was standing by fence, yelling at me as usual. She then, carefully kicked this rock under the fence. Looked at me and nodded her head. I know that Sierra and Satin collaborate on many things. Guess this has expanded to rocks. This rock appears to be black chert with quartz veins. Very pretty.

For some reason, I immediately thought of fossil horse teeth, though why your horse would give you one of those, I cannot imagine. Some can make nice cabs (though you can't tell from this old photo): That does look like it would polish up nicely. Smart horse!

The fossil horse tooth is cool. I am putting it with my rocks to slice on trim saw. It should yield about 4 slices for cabs. Black chert is fairly common in my land, though most pieces are smaller than this one.

If that were to have been a fossilized horse tooth: Well, I know you're not supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth...but if the gift from the horse is from the mouth, doesn't that leave you in a kind of paradoxical dilemma?

Those are well trained rock hounding partners you've got.

My horse gave me a broken foot once -- does that count?

Bahahaha, thank you for the laugh jasoninsd . Just what I needed. I love chert. It's like the "vintage Tupperware" of rocks; it's not fancy but there's just something about it...
