Thank you, kind people! No party this year... maybe do a big one next year! I didn't get much by way of presents, but I bought my "good" car (2001 Monte Carlo SS) a present... a winter car! Yes, I have graduated into that rarified air of "that person who keeps a car for summer/winter." It's the salt that kills the cars here. My '04 SS is parked behind the barn because of rust underneath. 150 K and runs like a top, doesn't even look very rusty, but underneath... not so good. Couldn't bear to have that happen to the '01 SS that I bought this summer. I put $$ into body and paint work, it's only got 78K on it, and the first time it was ever in the salt was last week. If I can keep it out of the salt, it should last many years. (Or until some moron drives into me...)
Winter beater car is a 2004 VW Passat with 116K on the clock. Needs a few things like interior lights, and I am going to have a little work done on it to touch up a few areas of rust, also I think it needs a heater core flush (I hope a flush is all it needs. Fan blows, warm air comes out, but doesn't get very hot. No weird condensation on windows or puddles in car or anything. Temp gauge inside stays in the middle during operation.) It's got brand-new studded Nokians all the way around.
Considering how 2020's been going, a better vehicle probably would have been an old Powerwagon, lifted, on solid rubber tires, with a zombie guard in the front, a swivel gun on the hood, and twin-mounted Vulcans on the rails.
