Well I dont know any other way to title this ; I bought some Ocean Jasper off ebay that has been cut into 1/4 inch plates that measure about the size of a playing card. I would like to tumble these in my model B tumbler..they will fit very easily...my question is will they break ?? or what should I use to buffer them so they will have a better chance of surviving the process ??
These are neat and I would like to make a little framed display for my wall with tese once they are polished...any help or input will be apprecieated.
Thanks Dwight P

They are called slabs, and they can be a problem. I polish slabs on a sanding drum, then polish on a leather lap. Slabs tend to only polish on one side, and then they sometimes only polish part of a side. Cabachons, on the other hand can be bbl polished with great success. I will make a cabachon with coarse wheels, go to fine wheels, toss them into the tumbler. I tumble untill smooth, shiny. I make the bezels custom for the stones. Slabs and tumblers can be a real issue. You would need lots of dunnage in the bbl and it will have to be checked frequently to insure the slab doesn't migrate only to the side.
