My step-daughter will be taking a trip up to Northern Washington in July and would like to do some hounding when they're up there. They're staying in Port Angeles and will be going to La Push while they're out there. Both are just seemingly north of Olympic National Park. She asked me to see if anyone on the forum had any specific good hounding locations in and around that area. I know she's into crystals...but will be happy with whatever suggestions she can get for anything in the area. Any suggestions or thoughts are welcomed.

You stand a pretty good chance at finding carnelian on any beach up there, variolite is another rock that cuts well and can be found on the beaches. Jade is another possibility, but harder to identify. All the ocean waterways were formed by glaciers and have lots of alluvial deposits of rock from all over so the concentrations of agate and jade are pretty random. As for the rivers carrying gravel from the olympics I bet a person could find poppy jasper in almost any of them. Just a matter of getting out onto those beaches and gravel bars, persistence pays off. Hope she finds some goodies Thank you so much for this.! I told her I'd give her my own list of items to look for...for me! LOL. I will definitely make sure she knows what poppy jasper looks like!!!

This is a good example of what you might find. Okay, now we're talking! I'm going to tell her to leave the spare tire at home so there's more room for rocks! (Kidding) That's an awesome example! Thanks for posting that eye candy! This should be helpful, Jason —
This is absolutely ideal! Thanks for this link! I will make sure she gets all this information! I just paged through this. A lot of great info!

Whidbey island, deception pass. You can take the ferry from Mukilteo, where the Lortone factory is at. Bunch of agates, pwood, jaspers, etc, etc, etc. The beach is completely rock gravel and sounds like a rain stick when the waves come in and out.
Then if willing to head East a bit, the worst kept secret on the internet for crystal hunting is Hansen Creek near Snoqualmie pass. Clear quartz, occasionally amethyst, scepters, and clusters. Being in July, it should be no problem to get up there. It's literally just a couple miles on a gravel road right off the interstate, then a hike up a path to the dig area.

Thank you bunches for this! I think she'll be super excited when she hears about the crystal hunting! (If it were me, I'd probably want to go see the Lortone factory!)

I think I’ll forward this thread to my son, who’s at school, up that way.
Boy, that PJ looks like a mix of Morgan Hill (the poppies) and Sausalito kinradite (the matrix).

Don't get him so interested he starts skipping classes to go hounding! I Googled (one again LOL) the Sausalito kinradite and you're right...a lot of the pics that came up looked quite similar.
