United Abrasive is an abrasive recycler in the U.P. of Michigan. This is not the same company as United Abrasives (with an S), which is a big abrasive manufacturer who makes the SAIT brand of abrasives. Anyone ever heard of United Abrasive or bought SiC from them? Any reason why their 97.5% pure 46/70 grade SiC would be inferior since it is a recycle product? They claim it is type C SiC with a mohs hardness of 9.5, which is approaching diamond hardness. On Ebay, they advertise 500 pounds of SiC 46/70 for $ 675.00 or $1.35/lb. if you've got a fork lift to unload the truck, which I do. www.ebay.com/itm/174177053677?ul_noapp=trueThey are probably paying around 11-12% to Ebay, so they should take $600 for the 500 pounds if I order by phone. So $1.20 a pound. I've been paying $85 shipped for 44 pounds from Johnson Brothers, which is $1.93 a pound -- the best price I have found without buying in bulk. It might take me a few years to go through 500 pounds, but it's not like it's going to go bad. Any thoughts on this?

I would like to also know if folks have used the SIC from United Abrasive as I am thinking about getting a mix of grits from them to make up the 500 lbs. Still costly, for the mix I'm looking at at around $850-$875 since if will be delivered to a Residential Address without a forklift. Just wondering how good it works. David

I've bought exclusively 46/70 from them previously: it was good....some tiny bits of scrap paper in the mix, but, nothing to impede my tumbling. I've never bought more than a few hundred lbs from them at a time...residential address..no forklift...MFRB's Would like to place a bulk order myself, but, my gf would flip out....so I have to wait for this lockdown business to end and she is out of town before I time the order/delivery right.

lordsorril SO did you find that it work as well as buying from some place else? United Abrasive is the only place I've purchased 46/70. I did not notice much of a difference in tumbling 46/70 United Abrasive vs. graded 46 from Johnson Brothers. If you offered me the two at the same price: I would take the United Abrasive 46/70.

Be sure to compare prices with JESCO in Oklahoma City. Ask for KC and you can say Bob in Stillwater sent you. I buy large amounts from them, and pick it up so no shipping, but I have to pay sales tax.
