Hey all! I've been warned against tumbling a handful of chunks of blue kyanite but I don't have any other use for them so I don't mind if it doesn't turn out. Has anyone in here successfully tumbled blue kyanite before and how'd you do it? Oh yeah, I mainly use my Lot-O, one barrel, vibratory tumbler Thanks!

Some kyanite is soft (5.5 mohs) and it ranges up to 7 mohs. I have not tried but have seen pictures where it was tumbled. Keep and eye on it if yours is soft.

Good deal, thanks for the info grieg! I will keep a close eye on it overnight here. I am trying the sugar method, not really sure what I'm doing but understand people do that to thicken slurry so as to cushion stones. Hoping it helps but most of my stuff seemed on the harder side.

Actually Kyanite is hardness of 5.5 in one direction and hardness of 7 at 90degrees. One of the odd physical properties of Kyanite and pretty much diagnostic as well.

Here's a link to the Cloudinary Tutorial. It takes a few minutes to set it up, but once you do all you need to do is click the Upload File button on the top right of the screen. It works really well once it's set up.
