Here’s a new use for my tumbles, but I had to convince my wife first that it would look good! Hopefully she likes it! I filled the center with flower foam core from Hobby Lobby to lessen the amount of rock needed but it still took a lot! edit - it’s a lamp! I’ll get a full pic soon.

Grant! I love it. Been looking for another place to stash away more tumbles. This is a great idea!

That is absolutely genius! I love it. Good idea on the foam core on it! *I showed this to my wife. She said it was stunning! *Trying to lay the groundwork for copying emulating your project!

That is a fantastic idea! It really turned out great.
(My kids have one of those stringed instruments, too. It's a bugger to keep in tune, but they don't seem to mind one way or the other!)

Very cool! Way better than having a bag full of pretty stones...not that I know what that's like!

Excellent idea and beautiful job. I polished some rocks that glow under UV-A (black light). Now, you have me thinking.

Did you buy that as a lamp, or did you build a lamp out of a jar? I haven't shown my wife yet, but I kind of want to make one too. Ok, I just showed her. She informed me that we don't have a place for another lamp. Sigh. greig, are you going to make a video? I think that would be a good one, especially with a black light. Would a regular black light make your rocks fluoresce?

That's really cool Grant - I love it and the family scene is awesome. Hope they are enjoying using it as much as you did making it.
Not as fancy as your lamp but it was a similar thing that got me obsessed on the hobby years ago - I had just remodeled a bathroom in green tones and I convinced my GF at the time that a tall cylindrical glass vase filled with green tumbled rocks would look great as a decoration, but we would need to collect them, and I'd need to buy a tumbler and she would need to marry me ... it did, we did, I did, and she did hahaha.

Tell her your current lamps don't have enough ballast and you are worried about them as a tipping hazard... OR, you could just break a current lamp. Accidentally, of course...

You guys are going to get me in trouble. How long do you suggest I wait between asking about the lamp and this "accident" taking place? I have a feeling she might catch on. Besides that, I made one of the lamps that might "fall off" the table. It's well built of course, so only the shade and the bulb would probably be damaged.

I believe you can also buy these light bulbs

Nice story! My family likes the lamp, esp my daughters. They help me tumble and pre-shape / cut rocks etc so they have quite a collection themselves already.

I have the lamp and waiting until I have enough rocks to fill it. I love the idea of the flower foam in the middle! Thanks for posting!
