Posting this to see if there is any interest.
A place to share the following in one post:
A rough rock you found or purchased. If found, photos of location from when found if you have any. If no photos, then anything you can remember about where found. Slabs of that rock. If not slabbed, how it was preformed. Preforms made. Finished cab(s). How you used the cabs (if you did). Such as wire wrapped, jewelry settings and other creative things. If the cabs were sold or just waiting for something to be done with them, that is fine.
The more info the better. Name of rock, where from, any difficulties you had with the material, processes used, what was learned, etc.
I often wonder what became of rough rocks and slabs on RTH. Feel this would be a great thread to share their start to finish items.

I don't get out hounding as much as I would like to but I may still be able to provide a few in-situ shots if I dig deep in the archives.

Ok, I'll take a go at this. This is one I found in the Oglala National Grasslands not too long ago. I don't have a pic of the exact spot it was on the ground, but I'm showing a picture of what it looks like where we hound. It's a Fairburn Agate, I decided to cut the nicest part of the pattern off to cab and I'm going to tumble the rest of the stone. I sawed the end off with my tile saw, shaped the cab with a dremel and polished the cab in a T-5 vibe tumbler. Still haven't decided if I should have just kept the stone as it was- but that decision was made and that's what I ended up doing. Here are the pics, in order. Hounding grounds, the stone after I found it, the stone after I cut and shaped it, after I polished it, and finally the wrap. Thanks for looking!

Great work, miket. For me "finish" probably would have been picture #2 for fear of ruining that wonderful fortification agate. You definitely managed to enhance it.

Great work, miket . For me "finish" probably would have been picture #2 for fear of ruining that wonderful fortification agate. You definitely managed to enhance it. Thanks Stephan. It wasn't an easy decision, almost blasphemous. Fairburns will always be my favorite to hound, but I decided to go ahead and cut this one.
I'm not sure if I enhanced it or not- I still like the rock as it was found.
