I was interested in purchasing a beacon star 8" master grinder. It currently has a 220 hard wheel, a 600 and 1200 nova wheel. I've been collecting rough and slabs for quite a while now and finally am able to purchase a cabbing machine. I have a lot of agate and jasper that I would like to get some experience creating cabs. He is asking for 1000 for the beacon star set up with motor and working water system. I can't find any similar products to compare pricing. Is this a fair deal for 1000? Would this be good for a beginner? I'm looking into purchasing a hard wheel as I was told the 220 wouldn't work well for agates, any recommendations? or anything else I might need.I'm hoping to upgrade to a 8" 6 wheel sometime in the future so is there resale value in the machine? imgur.com/a/GXSV0Lb

I would recommend buying a used machine. The problem is shipping cost or seller wants it picked up. For a new machine, I recommend a Genie. I am a big fan of machines that use geysers instead of drippers. Any machine that uses drippers, the wheels need to be under the dripper. Someone handy can add drippers. The Genie also has a spin on right side, so it can accommodate more wheels and the 8 inch Genie trim saw attachment with an 8 inch blade is easy to set up and take down. I also have an 8 inch stardiamond machine, which I bought cheap and local. It came with two wheels and a drip system. I converted it to Geysers and 5 diamond wheels. There was a lot of space on the arbor. The Beacon has room for more wheels but uses a drip system.

not to be a Debbie downer but that seems a bit high. The 2 Nova weeks look pretty used, You are still going to need like a 280 Nova and maybe a 3000. Also you will need a 80 grit hard wheel (maybe) and a way to polish. You are looking at an additional $250 to get that up and running. Check out the buy sell trade area on the board. I'm selling an old Loretone 8" dual drum grinder with all the belts, leather polishing belt, some diamond belts and motor. Everything you need to get going. for a lot less money. PM me for more details or if you have any questions.

I wouldn’t buy it for that price given you can get brand new 6 wheel machines used for less and new for a little more. If you’re wanting to get an 8” machine I would suggest saving that thousand and putting it toward a 8”. Cabkings 8” is a fantastic machine and you can put diamond pacific nova wheels on it. Johnson brothers lapidary wheels are a great cheap option for quality wheels also.
