Someone who lives near me is liquidating their entire life long lapidary collection.
It includes finished pieces, slabs, rough tumbling, large rough, cabs, fossils, specimen pieces and more.
They are doing this in a unique way.
Items are placed at end of driveway on selected days. Specific instructions. Individuals are limited on the number of items they can purchase. Honor system for payment, but when there are higher priced items available, someone is monitoring the tables.
They want most of the items to be purchased by people with children/grandchildren and teachers for educational purposes and to encourage appreciation of rocks/fossils.
For Easter, they are doing something special. A display table, with a recessed middle has been loaded with tumbled rocks, including some cabs and “flat cabs”.
The outer edges of the table are lined with velvet drawstring bags. The bags are about 3” by 5”.
Anyone can fill one bag for free. Additional may not be purchased. This is listed as potential Easter basket item for children.
A wonderful idea.

Love that idea. We have a local FB group that is a basic free goodies site. Love this idea so much that I'm gonna set out a box of tumbled stones for the kiddies and post it up on the FB site. Pass along some cool stuff and maybe inspire a youngster or 2. I used to have a garage sale every summer and always set out a box of polished rocks with a 10 for a buck sign. I told every kid that was interested that we had a youth discount of 15 for a dollar. Their eyes would light up when they could go back and get 5 more stones! Best part was when they would ask about ID and one of them would have grabbed a corpalite. The look of shock that they were holding Dino doo!

Thanks for posting this. I love reading/hearing POSITIVE things happening in life! stefan - that too was a great share! I also love it when someone new gets "introduced" to the coprolite I have! LOL

My philosophy with lapidary material is not to collect but have an inventory. Everything should be sold or given away.

My oldest granddaughter just came over and wanted to see the new grinder. She found some Chalcedony nodules in a bucket as was fascinated by them. Then she discovered some opal, and sprayed it with water for 10 minutes. Next she discovered some Selenite crystals and played with those. Needless to say she left with a small box of goodies and asked when she could come over and learn to grind. She remembers running my old grinder when she was 8 (she is 14 now) but didn't have the patience to finish the stone. She went through the slabs and preforms tonight and selected a few (including the opal chunk she took home) and is going to come over one evening to start cabbing. I told her that if she took an interest in it, then when I die she gets the whole lot! Of course I'm only 55 and in excellent health so it may be a few years before she can cash in on my promise lol.
