we have been collecting petoskey stones for years, and also have jasper pudding stones around where we live. we found our first yooperlite rock last fall. we love looking for rocks on the beaches of the Great Lakes. we have just started to tumble, bought a vibe tumbler, we are on our third one. they do not hold up, the type with the screw down the middle loosens up and unable to unscrew on the threads. any suggestions for a good reliable vibe tumbler. we plan on tumbling all sizes of rocks.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota. I will concede to the more experienced tumblers on here for their input, rather than give my newbie 2 cents! I do have to say, there really is something cool about Petoskey Stones!

Add oil now and then to the threads on the rod

What kind of vibe tumbler caused you the grief? I broke the middle rod in what I think was a Harbour Freight, that someone gave me. I think it was my fault because I was tumbling silver ore at the time and probably overloaded it. My next vibe will be Lot-O.

The lot o vibe is great and no threads to worry about. Jts smaller capacity than some others (4lb barrel) but they sell a double barrel also. Tho the 2 barrel machine must be run with both barrel full.

Welcome from Napa!
My first vibe was an old inherited Gemstone machine - I don't know the maker - and it was a constant fight with the threaded rod. Finally the plastic platform that holds the barrel busted in half and that was what put me out of my misery lol. I've since bought a Lot-o and although I don't use it very much - nor have I ever ran a conventional load of rocks in it, I love it for what I use it for.
